The WWF’s 2002 re-branding as WWE clocks in at number 7 on Time.com’s list of worst corporate name changes. The full list includes WWE’s broadcast partner SyFy and TNA’s TV home, Spike.

PW Torch’s James Caldwell reports that Vancouver, host city of this year’s Winter Olympics, is looking to host Wrestlemania 29 or 30. A committee has been formed to put forth a bid for the show. They’ve set up an official website (which is down at the moment) and Facebook page to promote their candidacy.

PWI’s Mike Johnson reports that the ECW Championship may not be discontinued along with the brand it represented. It’s Vince McMahon’s call, and he has yet to make a decision, but some are pushing for the belt to remain in circulation as a mid card attraction for PPVs.

WWE has announced, via its Raw page, that tonight triple threat match between DX, the Straight Edge Society, and Miz and the Big Show for the Unified Tag Team Titles will be an elimination match.

AOL Fanhouse’s Brian Fritz talked with Shane Douglas about the end of WWE’s version of ECW. Douglas foresaw this, and thinks Vince McMahon had a specific goal in mind be resurrecting the company:

While Zack Ryder has a new gimmick and small push on ECW, his former “Edge head” tag team partner Curt Hawkins has disappeared from TV entirely.
He is still with WWE, now with the FCW development territory.
Hawkins is being tested as a commentator in FCW, as a possible new role for him on the main roster.

WWE is planning on producing a new sitcom starring Santino Marella. On this show, his girlfriend would be Beth Phoenix and his best friend would be Vladmir Koslov.

John Cena had an MRI done to see if there was any major damage to his back or lower neck. The procedure was done on January 24.

In WWE contract news, Randy Orton has signed a new long-term deal with the company.
The exact terms are not known, but it’s rumored to be an extremely long deal, as many as 10 years, with a large downside guarantee.
