LC - I wrote about Iron Man matches, including that one, not too long ago. I went ahead an re-watched it just last night, and damn, that was some good stuff.

Outstanding storytelling and action.

Just imagine, that feud was over the US title!

Rude vs Steamboat (92) was the first Ironman match I ever saw and made me a fan of the storytelling possible in it. For one, Steamboat dominates early, getting lots of nearfalls, but then Rude steals one. As Ventura says on commentary, "It's like hockey, you can out shoot the opponent, but only the goals count." (or something like that). It also did the "sacrifice a DQ for strategic advantage" 8 years before the HHH-Rock match. Rude gets himself DQ'd with an illegal move (I think it was off the top, illegal at the time), takes the loss of the fall, then pins Steamboat off of the move. And then tries for more pins, making it obvious his strategy was to get more than one fall off of it.
Just watch it, it is a great piece of storytelling.

It is far from the best 2 out of 3 falls match ever, but the Hart Foundation vs. Demolition from a Summerslam in the early 90s, I want to say it was '92, was extremely well booked and a ton of fun. The few times RoH has busted out the 2 out of 3 falls the results have been pretty great too.

Iron Man matches too - I loved Rude/Steamboat in WCW, Hart/Michaels at WM 12, the HHH/Rock one I mentioned above, and Angle/Lesnar from SD.

We also have Jumbo vs. Flair from the early 80s (and several other Jumbo matches), plus London vs. Danielson Epic Encounter and probably many others I'm not thinking of.

Wasn't Benoit/Jericho from Summerslam 2000 a 2/3 falls match? I think we have our winner already...

Awesome article. Best 2/3 falls ever folks? Discuss. For arguements sake, lets not count Flair vs. Steamboat.
