The Chikarticles: No More PWG
By Jonathan Kirschner - October 8, 2008 | Email the author

Pro Wrestling Guerrilla really never gave me anything to work with. With the recent delays of BOLA 2008, I decided to drop PWG from the Chikarticles for now. Inside we have updates of Chikara, including their Global Gauntlet and Tag World Gran Prix.

Chikara vs. Big Japan Wrestling: The Global Gauntlet
Chikara’s Global Gauntlet is shaping up to be quite the treat for fans in the Easton and Philadelphia area. Back in July, Chikara sent out an invitation to numerous wrestling promotions from around the world, such as AAA and HUSTLE, to come to Pennsylvania to compete in a series of challenges against various members from the Chikara roster. The promotion which was quickest to answer the call was none other than Big Japan Wrestling.

The Global Gauntlet will be a two-day event consisting of seven wrestlers from Big Japan Wrestling, and seven wrestlers from Chikara. The first night, October 18th in Easton, Pennsylvania, will see a Best of 5 Series (with Chikara Officials). Here are the matches of the series:

1. Daisuke Sekimoto vs. Brodie Lee
2. Katsumasa Inoue vs. Hallowicked
3. Jaki Numazawa vs. Ultramantis Black
4. Yuji Okabayashi vs. Ultimo Breakfast
5. Ryuji Ito vs. “Lighting” Mike Quackenbush

Also on that night, there will be an inter-promotional tag match between Atsushi Ohashi, Shinya Ishikawa (the last two members of Team Big Japan Wrestling) and The Osirian Portal.

The following night in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, we will see a 7 vs. 7 Gauntlet (officiated by a referee from BJW). Ryuji Ito, Team BJW’s Captain, will be teaming with Daisuke Sekimoto, Katsumasa Inoue, Jaki Numazawa, Yuji Okabayashi, Atsuhi Ohashi and Shinya Ishikwawa to take on Mike Quackenbush’s (Chikara Captain) team of The Colony, Eddie Kingston, Gran Akuma and Claudio Castagnoli.

Tag World Gran Prix 2008: Teams Announced
1. Fire Ant and Soldier Ant (Chikara)
2. Amasis and Ophidian (Chikara)
3. Chuck Taylor and Icarus (Chikara)
4. Vin Gerard and Stigma (Chikara)
5. Jimmie James and Kid Fight (1PW)
6. Lazio Fe and Adam Polak (wXw)

9. Doug Williams and Martin Stone (wXw as the wXw Tag Team Champions)
10. Johnny Kidd and Robbie Brookside

Also taking place at TWGP2008 will be a rematch between Johnny Saint and Mike Quackenbush. The match will have 6 rounds of 5 minutes each. Both men are billed as “The Master of 1,000 Holds”, so you can already label this match down as a “classic”.

  1. Daisuke Sekimoto vs. Brodie Lee sounds like a lot of fun.
