10 Thoughts on Friday Night Smackdown for 12-5-08
By Brad Curran - December 7, 2008 | Email the author

Probably ought to get this in before RAW…

1. Edge vs. Funaki was kind of like this match crammed in to five minutes.

2. Vickie booking Edge against a jobber and then trying to wear down his challengers is a little too familiar. I don’t see way around that booking if they’re going to keep them together, though.

3. I liked the look Maria got on her face when she realized McCool was going to try the Chick Kick (McChick Kick?) on her. It helped her win look a little less flukey when she got the roll up.

4. Helms made his triumphant return at the expense of MVP. He has a new look, which includes long hair, a back tattoo, and wearing shorts with his old Hurricane logo over his tights. That last one’s kind of weird looking. The match was underwhelming, given the fact that both guys can go, but a little ring rust for Helms is understandable, given that he’s been out for a year and a half. I’m interested in seeing what they do with Helms with the Cruiserweight Division gone.

5. The tag team gauntlet Hardy and HHH had to run was Ryder and Hawkins (who haven’t been on TV in months), Miz and Morrison, and… that was it. Considering Kendrick and ‘Zeke are the only other heel team at all, I guess that makes sense, but it’s still kind of sad.

6. HHH vs. Hardy next week. Look, they have good chemistry and everything, but the repitition’s getting to be a little much. This will be their fourth match since October.

7. Kozlov broke up the Chavo/Matt Hardy match and then beat Matt down for costing him a shot at the title last week. Makes sense, but I don’t want to see this match at Armageddon, even if Matt has nothing set up for him on ECW at the moment.

8. It’s funny how the cage match still ends feuds, but only on free TV. We’ve seen it happen twice on RAW this fall, in world title matches no less.

9. Show vs. Undertaker was somewhere between their shockingly good match at No Mercy and their disappointingly bad match at Survivor Series. Solid free TV main event, but not any more than that. Having seen them do a similar ending at a house show took a little bit away from it, I think.

10. The Show/’Taker feud wound up being pretty one sided in Taker’s favor after Show got the win at No Mercy. With this feud blown off, ‘Taker seems set for a sabbatical ’til the Rumble.
