Mickey Rourke WrestleMania Update & Jericho’s Possible Opponent
by Iain Burnside on March 2, 2009

The current plan for Mickey Rourke at WrestleMania 25 is that he will be ringside for Chris Jericho’s match and get involved in the finish. WWE aims to build on Rourke’s boxing experience so that when he punches Jericho the fans could buy it as a knock-out blow. Vince McMahon is telling creative that he has the whole idea planned but nobody else seems to know the specifics of it yet. Jerry Lawler’s name has come up as the potential Legend to face Jericho. He has been putting over how disgusted he is with Jericho’s actions on commentary in recent weeks, as well as how he has never competed at WrestleMania. Also, unlike Ricky Steamboat and others, Lawler’s reputation was not built on having stellar athletic contests but on talking, timing and ring psychology, so he will not be as much at risk of embarrassing himself with his performance as other Legends may be.

There’s a reason Lawler has never performed at WrestleMania.

For the pay-off to an angle that has been THIS intensely performed so far…let’s keep it that way.

Lawler is an absolute god at psychology. As a person he’s, from all reports, a goof and pervert, but as a performer, he can get more from one well timed punch than many other stars can get from a full well-worked match.

WHEW. I’m hoping The King does get a payoff
