Shawn Michaels & The Undertaker Updates
By Iain Burnside - July 10, 2009 | Email the author

Jim Ross commented on the return of Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker to WWE in his latest blog update, which you can read in full here.

He notes that Michaels is likely to be the first of the two to return, perhaps in time for SummerSlam. “I could theoretically see Shawn Michaels return in late August, perhaps even at Summerslam, and then HBK’s WM25 opponent returning a month later.”

Regarding Undertaker, Ross said, “I don’t know anything official but my money would be on some time in September.”

He also spoke about Gerald Brisco’s health, Edge’s surgery and Jerry Lawler’s decision to run for Mayor in Memphis.

  1. Both are tremendous talent raised and trained up in the ‘Old School” way of doing things in the business and both have contibuted big time to the businesss and have helped carry it though many a hard times over the years. However it is clearly evident that the business has taken its toll on both of them and it SHOWS.They are the exception and not the rule for going this long in the business under such a demanding schedule.
I believe that when they do come back they ought to both make a final run in high style now while they can and get out of the business while they are still on top both physically, mentally and personally and if not they run the risk of being used up talent left to the trash heap. It’s always best to go out on top and I believe both ought to take advantage of the opportunity while they still have it.Yes they are big names that draw money but if they get broken down and can’t come back they won’t be drawing money at all.
It would be good to see Michael Hikkenbaum leave the business on top and in a manner respectful to his faith and personal beliefs.

  2. Question remains, as always…CAN they walk away if they needed to?

  3. Greg,
Excellent point and that was on my mind while writing my statement on the site.
I have respect for Michael Hikkenbaum’s faith and with that said I believe that (and hopefully soon)we will most likely see him announce his retirement and pursue higher priorities in line with his faith, family and church.I’m actually suprised that he hasn’t(there may be contract obilgations that are keeping this from happening ). I don’t know if you are familiar with the church he attends in San Antonio and Pastor John Hagee its senior pastor, the man preaches some of the hardest gospel messages I’ve ever heard and I would have to think these are waying on Michael’s conscience. With that said I believe his faith will have the final say in his decision and help him leave the business behind and focus on his rightfull priorities.
As far as Mark Calloway goes that is a tough one to call and we just may see him hang on in some fashion or another. The wear and tear of the business on him is very evident, particulary the weight loss. Yes he has been very loyal to Vince for many years and has been Vince’s backstage muscle. He is very loyal to Vince, but the question is , IS VINCE AS LOYAL TO MARC. Vinced has burned and thrown out many loyal talent and employee for decades once he was done with them and had no more use for them . Sounds tough and cruel ,however that is Vince’s track record for years and it sounds like the NEW REGIME AT THE WWE has no problem convincing Vince to get rid of somebody they don’t WANT OR NEED anymore.(example,Sgt. Slaughter, long time Vince McMahon henchman/Lt.) gone in a heart beat after many, many years of loyal service).
Marc is old school to the TEE and would be a excellent schoolmaster in the WWE’S developmental program and could end up there when he’s done in the ring.10 to 20 years ago I would say this would be a definite move , however the business has changed tremendously as well as the inner circle of the WWE. No longer are the old school guys around nor are they in charge. It’s all creative college type people who want to make movies and not put on a wrestling show and do not want any input from any old school guys never the less even want them on payroll. With all that said I think Marc should get out now while he can no matter how hard the decision may be.

A side note on the new regime in the business. Though Dusty and other old timers are still around and have the title of writers don’t think they are doing the writing or have much say.Let Steve Corrino tell you about his recent interview as a WWE writer and how a WWE Creative Upper Brass(female) who has NO WRESTLING experience at all just barked off Hollywood advice when he was showing his wrestling writing experience in a hands on interview with her, Dusty and the Dragon present. They had no say at all in the matter and had to just stand there and smile nice while this head brass from WWE’S creative told how it would be done NO MATTER WHAT .I have to question how soon will it be that Dusty , the Dragon and other old schoolers that are still around get their walking papers from Vince. My suspicion is that the Cody & Ted Jr. thing is not going to last forever and as Afa Sr and Afa Jr (Manu) got sent down the road so will be the same with Dusty, Cody & Dustin and also the same for Ted Sr & Jr.Doing business with Vince is like playing with a lit stick of dynamite “IT’S JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE IT BLOWS UP”

  4. I,ve watched wrestling for as long as I can remember. I really became a loyal fan when Mark “The Undertaker” made his debut. The Undertaker is my all time favorite wrestler. He needs to hurry up and come on back. I and others really miss him. On any given day at work our favorite topic “The Undertaker”
