Rumored Names for 2010 Hall of Fame
By Mike Shannon - November 5, 2009 | Email the author

WrestlingObserver.com is reporting that WWE officials have already begun talking about who to induct into the Hall of Fame at WrestleMania 26, which is only a few short months away.

The names being kicked around the office include:  “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase, the Road Warriors, Demolition, Ron Simmons, Slick, the Ultimate Warrior, Lex Luger, and the Honky Tonk Man.

Obviously, DiBiase is a front runner because he is currently employed by WWE.  The Road Warriors are also a likely choice due to Animal’s brother being head of Talent in WWE.  Demolition, recently seen reuniting and winning tag titles at a Pittsburgh independent show, are less likely due to their recent lawsuit against WWE.  Warrior, Luger, and HTM are all long shots mainly due to their personal relationship with Vince McMahon.

On a personal note, the fact that Randy Savage isn’t mentioned again this year once again shows the personal grudge that Vince holds.

  1. My understanding on the Savage/McMahon thing, from sources close to the situation, is that when Randy was about to jump to WCW, Vince McMahon tried to pull the “We own the name ‘Macho Man’ card” on him. WCW’s lawyers got him to back down without a shot being fired. Vince McMahon, who believes that every nickname and mannerism of ever person who has ever worked for him becomes his property by divine right of the King, will never forgive him.

That makes more sense to me then him fucking Stephanie McMahon.

The Ultimate Warrior was offered a spot in the Hall of Fame multiple times. Honky Tonk really doesn’t have anything major going against Vince McMahon (and I remind you that he inducted Koko B Ware last year). He doesn’t want to be in the Hall of Fame because it gives the WWE control over his bookings for like a year or something like that.

  3. What’s strangest about the Savage situation is that McMahon gave Randy an actual on-screen thank you, farewell, and good luck on RAW during his departure – how often do you see that? So, Savage was at least leaving on good terms. The lawyers/anal sex must have occurred after.

  4. Honky Tonk Man needs to be in the HOF but he is still actively working and, like Charlie said, they control your bookings. The infamous “legends contract” and as far as Demolition and their legal pursuits go let’s not forget he inducted Verne Gagne and they’ve nearly had fist fights..

  5. Yeah, it’s true he’s inducted people who he really hated. I don’t blame Warrior for turning down the Hall of Fame, especially with the hatchet job “Self Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior” DVD they put out a little while ago. As far as Honky Tonk Man goes, I really think the guy is delusional because I used to rad his website regularly and he would talk about all the money he drew in the 90s which, yeah, never happened.

The Savage thing just confuses me and I agree with Charlie that money makes MUCH more sense then some sort of ridiculous statutory rape against Stephanie. I just thought that if he was ever going to get in, it would be when they released his DVD so that they could cash in on it a little more.

I totally forgot about Bruno Sammartino, who probably deserves a Hall of Fame spot over ANYONE else, and his refusal to accept the invite.

  6. Just for the record- Verne made Hogan, not Vince. And Hogan didn’t leave because he didn’t get the title – he was scheduled to get the title and become a partner in the territory- Vince just had more money and Hulk bought into going national.

    Bruno will be in posthumously.

  7. Just for the record, Sylvester Stallone made Hulk Hogan, and nobody else. Not Gagne, McMahon, or Hogan himself.

  8. For the birth certificate, Pete and Ruth Bollea made Hulk Hogan.

  9. At least that’s what Mrs. Hogan told Pete.

  10. Charlie, again you make the most sense compared to other IWC members, looking beyond the HURR HURR HE RAPED STEPH comments. (I also commend you for daring to be REALISTIC about the Benoit controversy, which isn’t just about WWE being IWC-spiting history Nazis…shock, horror!)

It can’t be just about Savage jumping, even though I could see that (just read the Andre book WWE put out and see the paragraph where Vince talks about how butthurt he was when Andre showed up on TBS at Clash XX). After all, look how many people left for WCW and came back in good graces. So yeah, I think the conflict is more about the money issues (remember Savage holding up some company for some ridiculous amount…TNA? Or was it one of those pre-TNA not-WWE PPV companies?). And it’s also about Savage wanting to be his own man, I suppose…like the Warrior, hmmmm, coincidence? If they feel the need to come back to the company, all is well. But he isn’t. Hey, has anyone posed questions about this issue to Savage himself????

I mean, if Bret Hart could get in the HOF, I’d say anything’s possible, but on the other hand, he got there because he agreed to make nice with WWE again.

  11. P.S. Slick all the way! JIVE SOUL BRO!!!!!!!

  12. Bret Hart went into the Hall of Fame to protect his legacy and to give back to the fans. I *hate* Bret Hart as a person. I think he’s one of the biggest liars and scumbags out there. But you know what, he gets the big picture: at the end of your career, all you have left is the fans you earned. Going into the Hall of Fame is for them, not you. It’s a lesson guys like Bruno Sammartino would be well advised to learn. There have been people with WAY bigger tiffs with McMahon who sucked it up and went into the Hall of Fame for their own personal legacy and for the benefit of their fans.

The WWE wants to make a DVD for EVERY legend. I don’t get why so many people fight it. They pay you for it.

  13. I love that you writers have an opinion on everything that has ever happened in wrestling. Whatever the heat between Savage and McMahon is about it is not something to have an opinion on. Its fact simple as that. Why do any of you pretend to know what has gone on when clearly you don’t. In fact I imagine very few people actually do including those who were around back then.

Also Glazer why do you think that you are the be all and end all of opinions. Is it beyond your Vince McMahon sized ego to value other people’s writing and opinions. Hulk Hogon made Hulk Hogon. Verne Gagne and Vince McMahon gave him an opportunity and a platform and in return he made everybody a lot of money.

Reneke when are you going to backup your statements about Hart being a liar. Where does that come from? What did he lie about?

  14. Who’s Hulk Hogon?

  15. Remember that whole Hogzilla thing?

    Same animal, only in tights.

  16. scouser

You are right on so many things….. i agree with the Bret Hart thing, i dont see one thing he lied about.. Shawn Michaels lied that Bret was having a affair of with Sunny when in actuality he was Having a affiar with Sunny cause she was engaged to chris Candino….. Bret over dramatic and let what happend consume to much of what was left of his carrer but not a liar……… but i dont think Hogan made Hogan, Vince could of prob put someoneelse in that gimmick and maybe had the same success or close to it, Hogan would of died with the AWA
