I’m interested in figuring out what this EVOLVE thing is all about. But I don’t know how much the niche market of dyed-in-the-wool wrestling fans can support.
What does it matter if it saturates the market, another payday is another payday for all the wrestlers involved and another chance to see some great wrestling.I wish all the luck!
The market will only support so many paydays, regardless of the number of promotions. I absolutely wish them well with this and hope they succeed, I just don’t think another new wrestling promotion is what the scene needs now. Why not do more to support DGUSA, Chikara, and PWG? It’s not as though they don’t need it.
Early reports state that Hamaoui was looking to get a promoter’s license in NY, so it’s just gonna be yet another Tristate indy that is promoting all the same wrestlers in the same exact way. It’s like Gabe is doing all he can to kill the market for ROH.
I wouldn’t be so adverse to this idea if it was in an area that didn’t already have too much wrestling. The pacific northwest, midsouth, and mid-atlantic areas could really use some better representation. The fact that Texas doesn’t have a top-flight independent promotion on par with ROH or PWG is sad given its history. I don’t include IWA-MS here because they seemingly shut the company down every few months only to reopen.
I’ve gotta agree with Rob here. This reminds me of when XPW left the West Coast to be just one more company fighting over Philly’s table scraps, and went out of business soon after. Not comparing whatever Gabe’s got cooking to XPW of course, but there’s only room for so many indy wrestling companies in one area.
Why not try it elsewhere? Any of the places Rob mentioned would be interesting, or even here in SoCal we could use a serious wrestling company. PWG is great but its a comedy show that happens to offer good wrestling sometimes.
Unless it’s something completely new and different from Dragon Gate, Chikara, and ROH, it’s only going to saturate an already weak market.
I’m probably premature on that, but I really hope it isn’t an all-new fed along the same lines.
I agree with O’Mahony on this one.
