With all the talk of Bret Hart coming to WWE, until now it was speculation.

New reports say that Bret Hart has indeed signed with WWE, signing a short-term contract beginning January 1 and lasting through April 10, 2010. He could debut as soon as the January 4, 2010 Raw, which has yet to have a guest host announced. It also happens to be the date TNA runs live on Spike TV for Hulk Hogan’s debut with the promotion.

Wrestlemania 26 is March 28, 2010, so it the contract is clearly designed as a 3 month program ending in some way at Wrestlemania. With Shawn Michaels likely tied up with the Undertaker, it’s assumed that Bret will face Vince McMahon in a gimmicked match of some sort.

Note that the PPV after Wrestlemania, Backlash, is scheduled for April 25, 2010. While Backlash is often comprised of rematches and storyline continuations from Wrestlemania, as currently consistuted, Bret would be done before Backlash.

If Shawn Michaels does face Undertaker at Wrestlemania, maybe Bret Hart could be a special guest referee. That way, if it looks like Shawn is going to win, Bret can “screw him over” which also allows Undertaker to keep his win streak alive.

This is probably one of the worst-kept secrets since Pat Patterson’s homosexuality.

Expect Dennis Miller to be persona non grata for letting this slip. He’ll probably be taken out of the opening montage now. ;)

  • http://www.wildtalkradio.com Tim S

    Matt:
Just so you know, Dennis Miller didn’t let this “slip”. It was the genesis of the storyline that sets up Bret’s return to WWE television. Miller was “instructed” to ask the question. Its all called storyline, where angles drive plotlines culminating in the big pay-off. I agree this is/was a poorly kept secret, ever since it was let out of the bag, as it were by Miller’s Raw appearance, followed by WWE.com announcing the signing.
As for persona non grata status, Miller may very well be, after making fun of McMahon in the back for “having the gall” to give Dennis pointers in comedy. This was the motivation for the crack on the show – something McMahon wasn’t appreciative of.
This said, Hart’s return will definitely increase WWE’s ratings for at least the first few weeks. TNA will suffer because of it.

there is no confirmation you stupid idiot
    show me the wwe.com announcement???????

  • danny b

@ yobni: ouch, that’s rough. I don’t think WWE.com has announced the signing (which is good since on TV the whole storyline revolves around people not knowing if he really is being considered to be brought back. It would be kinda dumb if the company website flat out said “yeah, he’s back.”)

Bret Hart was named again on RAW this week. So from a story stand point, yeah he’s coming back.

it is confirmed by multiple sources. wwe superstar JTG confirmed it on his official twitter account. it has been confirmed again by Directv. on their description it reads:

“Shocking Guest Host Bret The Hitman Hart returns to confront Mr. McMahon,”

Dont believe me? look it up! shut up and just wait to see what happens!!

  • regina

I hope this is true!!!I. Heard a lot that candice micxhelle. Was coming back last week!!! I hope this isn’t a lie!!!

hulk hogan…while a douchebag…will pull ratings stronger than bret hart. i’m a non-customer of either product these days due to my non-cable status, but if i were…i’d be watching what TNA can do with Hulk and what HE brings to the table with additional people. HOWEVER: Bret and a live RAW Mic=REAL MONDAY NITRO. Here’s a guy that’s COULD use his spot to put McMahon on BLAST. The Screw Job, his brother’s death, blame him for Davey Boy’s death, and somehow blame him for the stroke he had after getting his head blasted in by Bill Goldberg. Oh yeah, I’m sure he could also bring up Benoit, too. He’s been layin’ in the weeds for 12 years to do something like this. This is gonna be messy for the E. Are they THAT DESPERATE FOR RATINGS?

  • Ricky27

This was needed years a go. I believe Bret will bring in the ratings that Raw has needed in quite some time. I wonder how much of an angle Shawn and Bret will get, if any? With Shawn changing his life around, will he be any different with Bret than previous years? This has to be one of the greatest storylines ever. If the WWE don’t screw it up, like they did with DDP and others. And as far as TNA, I hate that with their big chance to move up came with the timing of Bret’s return. Will wait and see what they will do.

  • Bruce

Yeah, chuck deuce. McMahon’s really going to let Bret loose. You keep telling yourself that.

  • mickyp09

Bret will get the biggest “pop” of the decade when he actually walks out on Raw! Cant wait for it. Hopefully he agrees a longer contract and works with the Hart Dynasty

  • krystal

Awesome, I miss how great the WWE(WWF) was back in the hitman days.

It’s pretty funny that TNA and WWE are going for the wrestlers of the 80s and 90s to draw ratings. I’m not complaining.

A few of the younger wrestlers are disappointing to watch.

    u happy, yobni?

  • bob c

This promises to have great potential, but we all know how lame WWE storylines are lately. Remember, Bret retired and hasn’t wrestled in nine years for a reason. Don’t be surprised if his role is in a non-wrestling capacity. In addition, Vince is taking a huge risk. If Bret decides to go “loose cannon” on live TV only God knows what will happen. Maybe Vince is screwing Vince.

  • yobani

yes! so happy he is back.
i hope he will come up on top. they need to make him look good after what happened
i wish the we want bret chants would be stronger last night on raw but after 12 years its not bad

I’m glad bret hart is coming back and i think tna has no chance of beating wwe especially wit undertaker, kane,dx,batista, rey mysterio, and all the famous wrestlers are in the wwe and hulk hogan could take tna to the top but bret is the best there is,the best there was,and the best there ever will be. GO WWE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • http://www.myspace.com/malikswizz Malik Owens

i think that if shawn michaels face undertaker but remember undertaker doesn’t like bret hart so what i think should happen at wrestlemania 26 Bret Hart v Shawn Michaels v Undertaker in a triple threat match which man will end the undertaker streak or will the streak stay alive.

  • Dave N

Bret is 52 years old and hogan is pushing 60. TNA will not make a major move in the ratings until hogan wrestles…the same thing happened when Vince was against the ropes, he eventually wrestled Stone cold and that story line brought WWE awesome ratings.

Both hogan and bret will have to get fisical to make a mark on their perspective companies…Can Bret still bring it? Has hogans back healed up?
    STAY TUNED!

  • Dave

I highly doubt he willactually wrestle due to his stroke and concussions, he will play the screwjob on micheals. then kick vinny mack in the pills spit on him then leave oh shit I let the cat out of the bag …….oh well

  • Stephanie

Wouldn’t be funny if Bret Hart and Shawn Micheals did a screwjob on Vinny?

  • Paolo

I think Vince Mcmahon will let Undertaker’s winning streak on WrestleMania live because it is a good combination package for pay per view for WWE. So I think what will happen is Bret will screw Michaels in WrestleMania if Bret will be the special guest referee. I think Vince Mcmahon is going for this storyline to make this match happen.
