WWE Superstars recap for 12/24/09

Vladimir Kozlov vs. Ezekiel Jackson: I was not able to catch the beginning of the show (first 10 or so minutes) which included this match. From what I could tell the contest was very brief and ended in a double count-out or no contest.

Chavo Guerrero vs. Primo Colon: Chavo tries to take things to the mat early but gets a kick to the face as a result and he breaks the attempt. His efforts with an irish whip fare no better as Primo gets the better of two such exchanges. After an offensive attempt in the corner leads to a roll-up reversal by Colon, Chavo tries another corner and a spinning wheel kick to finally gain the advantage he had been seeking. After being abused on the mat for a bit, a spinning back elbow starts a flurry for Primo which he continues with a clothesline and a side russian leg sweep. He tries to hit s slingshot maneuver off the apron but Chavo hits him with a dropkick in midair. Guerrero then goes for the 3 Amigos but Primo rolls him up for a two count on the third attempt. Chavo reverses a slam attempt by dropping Primo backwards over the top rope and then hits the frog splash for the pinfall victory.

Intercontinental Champion Drew McIntyre comes down to the ting in a suit to spread some holiday cheer via a promo about how he is the “chosen one”. John Morrison decides to Grinch things up by informing Drew that he will get his rematch on the New Years Day episode of Smackdown. After a few insult attempts, they have a brief brawl that ends with Morrison hitting Starship Pain.

The superstar video of the week features John Cena and his experience with the latest WWE Tribute to the Troops tour and TV special. Also for those interested in a possible return to the “Monday Night Wars” with TNA going head-to-head with RAW, TNA ran a commercial advertising Hogan’s debut with them several times during this episode.

Kane vs. Mike Knox: I think this is the third match in this recent feud, with Kane having won the first two battles. Surprisingly Kane takes the match down to the mat early on as he tries to work on Knox’s arm. Knox tries to respond with a vertical suplex but Kane reverses it into one of his own and follows with his seated dropkick off the ropes and a brief cover attempt. Both men try to take the action into the corner and Kane eventually gets the better of that and hits a one-armed DDT and the show takes a commercial break.

When the action continues, Kane still seems to be in control as he clotheslines Knox over the top rope. But when the Big Red Machine flows him back out, Knox is able to gain an advantage and kick Kane off of the ring apron. Mike goes up top and hits a chop onto Kane as he re-enters the ring before locking on a headlock which Kane is able to break. As both men get up, Kane bounces off the ropes into an impressive dropkick from Mike Knox!  Kane is able to catch Knox off the ropes with a big boot and follows that up with a sideslam. Kane connects with his flying clothesline but cannot get the three count. Knox reverses a shot to the corner into his flying crossbody and that gets him a long two count. Mike tries to climb the top rope for an attack but after Kane momentarily halts his progress, Knox leaps right into a chokeslam that is enough to earn Kane the pinfall victory.
