MATCH #1: Warriors International Challenge – CIMA vs. Chuck Taylor

CIMA represents Warriors International, hence the title of this match. Taylor starts off going after the arm, and CIMA comes back by targeting the leg. CIMA even bites Taylor’s foot, and Taylor responds by biting the referee’s foot. That made CIMA a little sick. What a weird spot. Anyway, CIMA continues to stay in control, hitting the slingshot senton but he doesn’t go for a cover. He continues to work Taylor over and ties him up in the corner for the dropkick to the butt. Taylor comes back with a flying forearm and a scoop slam. He dropkicks CIMA to the floor and then hits a springboard missile dropkick back into the ring for two. Taylor goes to the well once too often and misses a dropkick, so CIMA hits him with a double stomp and senton. CIMA follows up with an elevated double stomp for two. He goes for the Perfect Driver but Taylor slips out and hits Sole Food and big boot to the face for two. Taylor hits a powerbomb and jackknifes over for two. He goes up top but CIMA cuts him off with three Veni and follows up with the Iconoclasm. CIMA then hits a running boot to the face and the Perfect Driver for two. He goes for a superkick but Taylor catches it and locks on a half crab and CIMA reaches the ropes. Taylor charges but runs into a superkick. CIMA then hits an enziguiri and then Schwein but it only gets two. He goes up top and finishes Taylor with the Meteora at 11:07. That was a solid opener but there wasn’t any real story to get invested into with it.
Rating: **¾

Johnny Gargano comes out and gives Taylor props. Then he pleads with CIMA to let him be the American representative for Warriors International. Before CIMA can give an answer, Drake Younger runs out to start the next match!

MATCH #2: Grudge Match – Drake Younger vs. Johnny Gargano

Younger is on fire, clotheslining Gargano over the ropes and then following him out with a baseball slide. He continues abusing Gargano all around ringside, even hitting a somersault senton off the stage. Gargano comes back and slams Younger’s head into the ring apron, and then bites at the wound on his head. Younger comes back with a suplex. Back in the ring Younger gets a cradle for two. Younger then hits 10 mounted punches in the corner and a vertical suplex for two. Gargano gets sent to the apron but of course comes back in with the Spear through the ropes. He works Younger over, hitting a low dropkick and the mini Ace Crusher for two. Younger tries to come back with some strikes but Gargano cuts him off by going after the cut on his head. Gargano tries a charge in the corner but Younger hits a back elbow and goes up top, but Gargano cuts him off with a palm strike. He goes for the Lawn Dart but Younger escapes and hits a half nelson suplex. Both men are down. Back on their feet Younger hits a Death Valley Driver into the turnbuckles but it only gets two. Younger sets Gargano up top but it proves costly as Gargano powerbombs him out of the corner and locks on a Boston Crab and Younger reaches the ropes. They slip to the apron and Younger hits the DVD on the apron. Gargano may be broken in half! I love it when commentators say that. Lenny Leonard then kills a little bit of kayfabe by remarking that he and Brodie Lee set up the ring together. Why would he think that was a good thing to say? Back in the ring Younger gets a two-count. Younger goes for Drake’s Landing but Gargano counters with a reverse Pedigree. Gargano tries a superkick but Younger catches it and goes for Drake’s Landing again, but Gargano once again slips out and hits a superkick. Gargano hits the Lawn Dart and Hurts Donut, but Younger kicks out at one for some reason. Another superkick and Hurts Donut combo is enough to put Younger away at 9:59. That was Younger’s last match to date in DGUSA, and I’m not really itching for him to come back. The match was passable.

I’m Going to Make a Call

Bryan Danielson is outside with BxB Hulk. Danielson notes that Moxley has tons of talent but no respect. He says they’re going to have a fight tonight rather than a wrestling match. He then thanks BxB Hulk for always having his back and letting him be in World-1. He’s going to make a phone call to provide BxB with a suitable replacement.

MATCH #3: Six Way Freestyle – Jimmy Jacobs vs. Brodie Lee vs. Mike Quackenbush vs. Rich Swann vs. Silas Young vs. Kyle O’Reilly

Quack and Swann start the match. They go back and forth for a bit but Quack takes most of the advantage. Swann comes back with a dropkick and a headscissors that sends Quack to the floor. O’Reilly comes in and knocks Swann out, so Young comes in. They also do the back and forth bit, countering each other’s holds and strikes. Lee comes in and knocks both of them out, and then Jacobs joins him in the ring. Jacobs unloads with right hands but Lee cuts him off. Lee charges at him but Jacobs grabs the End Time, which is awesomely countered to a spinebuster. Everyone takes a shot at Lee, but surprisingly it’s Swann who knocks him to the floor. Swann looks to be going for a dive but O’Reilly cuts him off. O’Reilly hits the rolling butterfly suplexes and Young breaks up the pin and tosses O’Reilly. Young hits Swann with a Fisherman Buster for two. Jacobs tosses Young to the floor and goes to work on Swann. Lee pulls Jacobs to the floor and levels Swann with a big boot. Jacobs gets back in and he and Lee spill to the floor. Quack is in the ring with Swann now, and Quack executes a standing Boston Crab. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before. Young and O’Reilly break it up and then double-team Swann. It doesn’t last too long though before Swann uses his incredible agility to subdue both opponents. Swann knocks Lee off the apron and then takes out Lee and O’Reilly with a dive. Back in the ring Quack hits Jacobs with the Black Tornado Slam for two. Swann and Young take over the ring and Young hits the Finlay Roll and the Peegee Waja Plunge. O’Reilly is back in and he takes Young out and then runs right into a Truck Stop by Lee. This is getting way too fast for me. Jacobs grabs Quack with the leaping Ace Crusher. Young grabs Jacobs with the Backbreaker Clothesline Combo. O’Reilly breaks that up and hits a tornado DDT. Swann is back and hits O’Reilly with a superkick. He tries a rana but O’Reilly powerbombs him and locks on a half crab. Swann escapes and hits a Stunner, and then a headscissors piledriver! Lee then takes Swann’s head off with a big boot and that’s enough for the pin at 11:22. Non-stop action, very few (if any) blown spots, and a great finish make this one of the best scrambled egg matches I’ve seen.

Yo Mox!

Jon Moxley is backstage and says he got a call from John Cena this morning wondering what to do about Bryan Danielson. Moxley says Cena offered him $10,000 to break Danielson’s arm, but Moxley says he’ll do it for free.

MATCH #4: Special Attraction Match – Dragon Kid vs. Arik Cannon
Kid starts the match with some dance moves for some reason. Cannon responds with the Worm. Kid hits a dropkick to start the match proper. Cannon scores a couple of knockdowns and then Kid come back and knocks him to the floor. Back in the ring Kid hits a knee drop to the chest. Kid backs Cannon into the corner and hits a dropkick to the chest. He then hits another dropkick, this one to the face and Cannon rolls to the floor. Kid goes for an Asai Moonsault but Cannon blocks it and throws him back in the ring. Cannon counters a headscissors by dropping him face first for a two-count. He snapmares Kid and dropkicks him in the back of the head for another near-fall. Cannon follows up with a delayed vertical suplex for yet another two-count. A swinging neckbreaker gets another two. Cannon charges into the corner but Kid avoids him and drop toeholds him into the buckle. Kid goes up top but Cannon knocks him to the apron. Cannon tries to ram Kid’s head into the buckles but Kid blocks it and comes back with a hurricanrana back into the ring. Kid hits a running leg lariat in the corner and then a tornado DDT for two. Cannon comes back with a hard clothesline and the Total Anarchy for two. Kid comes back and locks on Christo but Cannon escapes with a sidewalk slam. Cannon hits a belly-to-back suplex for two. He goes up top but Kid knocks him down and joins him up there and hits a hurricanrana. Kid hits the Mysterio Rana for two. Cannon comes back and tries the brainbuster but Kid counters it with a Stunner. Kid puts on the End Time but Cannon counters with the brainbuster for two. Cannon tries to follow up but Kid counters with Bible to get the pin at 9:41. Solid back and forth match but nothing to go nuts for.
Rating: **½

MATCH #5: Special Challenge Match – Gran Akuma vs. Ricochet

This is Ricochet’s first official contest as a member of Warriors International. Akuma represents Kamikaze USA. This is their first ever singles match. They start off slowly, feeling each other out in the early going. Ricochet uses his agility to send Akuma to the floor and tries a cartwheel before his dive, but Akuma cuts him off with a kick to the back. Back in the ring Akuma goes to work with kicks and submission holds. Ricochet comes back with the Backslide Driver and Akuma rolls to the floor. This time Ricochet connects on the dive, wiping Akuma out on the floor. Back in the ring Ricochet gets a two-count. Ricochet blows a spot and then repeats it, hitting the tornado DDT and then a standing shooting star press for two. He hits Cradle Shock for another two-count. Akuma comes back with his awesome gutbuster for two. He sets up for the Rubik’s Cube but can’t hit it. They fight up to the top rope and Akuma hits the Spider Exploder and hits the moonsault but Ricochet kicks out at two! Akuma goes up top and Ricochet hits him with a palm strike and a rana. Ricochet hits the 450 Senton for the win at 7:23. Akuma was game but Ricochet seemed nervous and blew a couple of spots.

Here I Am

Earlier today Jimmy Jacobs cut a promo backstage about his match last night with Jon Moxley. He says that Moxley tried to end him last night but couldn’t get the job done, so now he should be worried. Jacobs says that he’s starting to figure out what he can do to end Moxley.

MATCH #6: Exit the Dragon – Bryan Danielson vs. Jon Moxley

Danielson is the WWE United States Champion at this point. Moxley cuts a brief promo before the match, telling the live crowd he’s been drinking whiskey all day and he’s ready for a fight. Danielson charges the ring and the fight is on.

Moxley is ready for him and they slug it out. Danielson catches a charging Moxley and locks him in the Cattle Mutilation! Moxley rolls over but that only makes it easier for Danielson to hit the elbow strikes, so Moxley rolls into the ropes and to the floor. Danielson follows him out with a suicide dive into the crowd. He unloads on Moxley with kicks and rams him into the ring post. Moxley fights back and hurls Danielson into the post. He picks Danielson up and again rams him into the post. Moxley then shoves his own valet down to the ground just to be a sadistic prick. Danielson has been busted open and Moxley attacks it with furor. Back in the ring Moxley continues going to work on Danielson’s bloody head. Moxley also works on Danielson’s arm for a two-pronged attack. They go back to the floor and Danielson reverses a suplex attempt for one of his own. Danielson unloads with some forearms and kicks. He throws Moxley back in the ring and hits the running lariat. He hits several Low Ki kicks to the chest for a two-count. Moxley fights back and they trade running forearms, and then take each other down with simultaneous clotheslines. They rise and exchange forearms, and Moxley knocks Danielson down with a hard back elbow. Moxley tries a Cradle Piledriver but Danielson backdrops his way out of it. Danielson misses a kick and Moxley goes right back to the arm, locking on a Fujiwara Armbar. Moxley adds some forearms, but Danielson is able to slip out and turn it into a Triangle Choke! That’s not enough to put Moxley away though, as he muscles Danielson up to the top turnbuckle. Danielson pushes Moxley down and hits the missile dropkick. Moxley comes right back with an Ace Crusher for two, and then locks on the Crossface Chicken Wing! Danielson escapes briefly and Moxley goes right back to the hold, but this time Danielson rolls through to hit the elbow strikes and then locks on Cattle Mutilation! Moxley reaches the ropes and the crowd actually shushes themselves but Danielson doesn’t remind everyone he has until five. He wants to fight! Moxley counters a European Uppercut with a backslide for two, and then levels Danielson with a lariat for two! Both men rise and trade strikes, with Danielson getting the better of it with two knockout kicks to the head. He kicks Moxley’s head in and then cinches in the LeBell Lock to get the tap out win at 14:56. That was an awesome brawl and a great sendoff for Danielson.
Rating: ****

Danielson extends his hand to Moxley, but that proves foolish as Gran Akuma attacks him from behind. Jimmy Jacobs comes out to make the save and runs Kamikaze USA off. Danielson gets on the mic to thank everybody for coming, and notes that the show almost didn’t happen because of issues with the ring not showing up. He puts over the guys in the back, and then shifts gears to put Jacobs over huge.

MATCH #7: The Main Event Dragon Gate Style Six Man Match – BxB Hulk, Masato Yoshino & Naruki Doi vs. Shingo, YAMATO & Akira Tozawa

I don’t think my fingers will be able to keep up with all the action here. Shingo, YAMATO, and Tozawa are representing Kamikaze USA. Hulk (current Open the Freedom Gate Champion), Yoshino (current Open the Dream Gate Champion), and Doi are representing World-1.

YAMATO and Doi start it off. They engage in some fast paced chain wrestling, and then tags to Tozawa and Yoshino are made. Yoshino starts running super fast off the ropes as he’s known to do, but he gets tripped up and clotheslines himself in the ropes. Even so Yoshino comes back with a headscissors to send Tozawa to the floor. Shingo and Hulk take their turn now. Hulk takes control with an armdrag and a dropkick. World-1 works Shingo over now in their half of the ring. They focus their attack on Shingo’s leg. After a few minutes of abuse Shingo takes out both members of Speed Muscle and makes the tag to YAMATO. Moments later Hulk and Shingo are back in the ring and Shingo is in control. Kamikaze keeps Hulk isolated in their half of the ring. Hulk fights back on Tozawa with a leg lariat and makes the tag. Yoshino comes in and they start working over Tozawa’s arm. After a few minutes Tozawa comes back with a series of kicks and makes the tag. Yoshino enters the ring illegally, but it becomes legal when YAMATO hits a vicious spear to send Hulk to the floor. YAMATO is all over everybody here, and Shingo joins the party. The action is starting to get fast and furious here and referee Bryce Remsburg has lost control.

Yoshino hits Tozawa with Sling Blade for two. He goes up top but gets caught with a Tozawa dropkick on the way down. A determined Tozawa lands a senton. Yoshino comes back with From Jungle and YAMATO breaks it up. Hulk comes after YAMATO and they trade forearms. They block each other’s signature moves and then Hulk takes him out with an enziguiri. Speed Muscle comes in and takes over on YAMATO, hitting a double-team Flapjack for two. Shingo tags in and goes right after Yoshino. He counters From Jungle with a couple of backbreakers and generally cleans house on World-1. Yoshino is on the wrong end of a Kamikaze beat down now. Doi gets back in and stacks YAMATO and Shingo up in the corner and hits Dai Bosou! He hits Tozawa with Doi 555 but Tozawa kicks out. Hulk hits Tozawa with Mouse and Yoshino follows with Torbellino and Doi follows with the Bakatare Sliding Kick and YAMATO makes the save. Tozawa fights back with Ganki but can’t make the cover. Kamikaze regains control and focuses on Hulk. Tozawa hits the dead lift German Suplex for two. The offense is coming much too fast for me to keep up with at this point. All six men wind up flat on their backs, exhausted from the breakneck pace. Shingo and Hulk are the first two back to their feet. They go back and forth and Shingo hits Made in Japan for two. Shingo hits a lariat in the corner and despite Speed Muscle trying to stop him he hits Stay Dream to pin the champ at 26:27. That was unbelievable action from start to finish and yet another worthy entry in the Dragon Gate six-man tag series.
Rating: ****½

Kamikaze continues the beating after the bell and the crowd approves. When World-1 recovers, Doi grabs the mic and asks the fans if they enjoyed the show. Doi loves the “Naruki … Doi!” chant the crowd has been doing for him all night. He tells them that they will be back in response to their “please come back” chants.

~EXTRA FEATURES~

BONUS MATCH: Aeroform vs. Zero Gravity

I expect some highspots here. Louis Lyndon starts for Aeroform and CJ Esparza is in for ZG. They both immediately display their agility with a back and forth display. Tags are made so now Flip Kendrick will take on Brett Gakiya. The pace is fast and furious, which contributes to them blowing a cross body block spot. I feel like the commentators keep calling the guys in ZG by the other name and it’s making it very hard for me to keep up. As I try to figure out which is which, Aeroform keeps Esparza isolated in their half of the ring. Gakiya tags back in and goes crazy with knees to the face and gets a two-count. The referee has lost control here. Kendrick hits a back suplex and goes to the top rope to hit a “shooting star 450,” which is amazing, but I don’t think Gakiya appreciates how Kendrick just landed on his balls. Anyway, Aeroform picks up the win at 5:30. They all looked nervous and the match was all spots, but that’s fine enough for a throwaway bonus match.

Highlight Video

This is the standard highlight package, but only four minutes rather than the usual five.

The Pulse: The last two matches alone make this an easy recommendation to buy. The undercard also has that swell Six-Way Freestyle mach and some good storyline development with Johnny Gargano and Jacobs versus Moxley so there’s a lot to love on this show. Buy it Right Here.

I wish we could have gotten Danielson vs. Tozawa to complete the Danielson vs. Kamikaze series. Plus Danielson vs. Yoshino.

  • Jake Ziegler

Danielson versus anyone in DGUSA would be worth watching, but yeah against Tozawa would be tremendous.

  • Sebastian Howard

    Awesome show!

  • Phil Clark

I was at this show and a big reason it was so good live was because there was no breaks in between matches. They just went from one to the next to the next. Why? Because they were running so late from the previous night’s Chicago show and there was a concert at the Miramar later that night. This show had a 2PM bell time, but didn’t get fully started until almost 4PM and with a Danielson meet and greet, they had to rush it a bit. It turned out to be the best. Also, and a good indication of how late they were, many of the DGUSA roster actually came out to bring the equipment in and set up the ring.
