MATCH #1: R-Truth vs. Rey Mysterio

Truth comes out sans entrance music. He cuts a weird promo about parking spots and says he doesn’t play games. Mysterio quickly uses some high flying tactics to send Truth to the floor and he follows him out with a rana off the apron. Back in the ring Mysterio looks for a moonsault but Truth knocks him down into the Tree of Woe. Truth sends Mysterio to the apron and whips him into the post. He throws Mysterio back in the ring and gets a two-count. He continues on the advantage, hitting a Gourdbuster for another two-count. Moments later Mysterio comes back with a bulldog off the second rope for two. Mysterio picks up the pace and drills Truth with a kick to t he head for another near-fall. Truth cuts him off with a Lie Detector for two. Mysterio comes back and tries the 619 but Truth avoids it and slides to the floor and is able to crotch Mysterio on the ring apron. Back in the ring Truth hits the Flatliner to get the ultra clean pin around 8 minutes in.

WINNER – R-Truth, **1/2

Backstage Todd Grisham gets a word in with the Miz and Alex Riley backstage. Miz promises to make Cena say “I Quit” and regain the WWE Championship.

MATCH #2: Intercontinental Championship Match – Wade Barrett vs. Ezekiel Jackson

Jackson uses his insane power to throw Barrett around and kick him early on. Everything Barrett tries early on fails as Jackson is dominant. Finally Jackson charges into the corner and Barrett moves, causing Jackson’s shoulder to crack against the ring post. Barrett goes for Waste Land but can’t connect so he instead hits a pumphandle slam for two. Jackson makes the comeback with a multitude of bodyslams. The crowd LOVES it. Jackson picks Barrett up in the Torture Rack but Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater run out for the DQ at about 8 minutes.

WINNER – Ezekiel Jackson (DQ), **

Backstage, CM Punk and Mason Ryan are walking when they come upon a beaten up David Otunga and Michael McGillicutty. Punk assures him that things are okay and they’re going to win the tag team titles. He tells Otunga and McGillicutty to walk it off. Punk is awesome.

MATCH #3: Sin Cara vs. Chavo Guerrero

The gold lights are on for the match as they exchange holds to start. Cara knocks Chavo to the floor and shows off some impressive acrobatics. Back in the ring Chavo tries some offense but Cara has an answer for everything. Cara hits a moonsault for two but misses a Stinger Splash. Chavo follows him in with the double knees and then kicks him down in the corner. Cara comes back with a dropkick and a creative takedown. He charges into the corner and Chavo gets a boot up. Chavo goes to work on the leg now, trying to take away Cara’s high flying skills. Cara comes back and knocks Chavo to the floor and wipes him out with a dive. Back in the ring Cara hits a nice rana and gets the crowd fired up. He hits the Tajiri handspring elbow and lands a hard kick to the head. Cara then hits a springboard cross body block for two. Chavo tries the Gory Special but Cara escapes it. Cara comes back and tries a headscissors but Chavo lands on his face. Even so that gets the win at about 8 minutes. The finish looked kind of blown, not really sure what they were going for there.

WINNER – Sin Cara, **1/4

Backstage Todd Grisham gets a word with Christian and Randy Orton. They exchange tense words as both promise to come out a winner tonight.

Back out in the arena, Ricardo Rodriguez welcomes Alberto Del Rio to the arena, but he’s not dressed to wrestle. He talks about Canadians immigrating into Seattle. He goes on to talk about how his destiny is to win the WWE Championship. He gets cut off by the WWE Tag Team Champions. Kane says he’s angry about the rapture not coming yesterday. He and Show run Del Rio out of the ring, which segues into the tag title match.

MATCH #4: WWE Tag Team Championship Match – Kane & Big Show vs. CM Punk & Mason Ryan

Ryan and Kane start the match and Ryan actually shoves Kane down to the mat. He follows up with a shoulder tackle to knock Kane down again. He tags Punk, who runs right into a fist. Now the champs go to work. Punk comes back with a low dropkick on Show and makes the tag. Now the New Nexus try to keep Show down. It doesn’t last long before Show puts the squeeze on Punk and tags out. Kane abuses Punk with clotheslines and a side slam for two. He goes up top and hits the big clothesline. Ryan attacks Kane from the apron, allowing the Nexus to take control. Ryan actually hits Kane with an Oklahoma Stampede for two. That’s pretty impressive. The match breaks down and the champs hit Ryan with the Chokeslam to get the win and retain the titles at about 9 minutes.

WINNERS – Kane & Big Show, **3/4

MATCH #5: Divas Championship Match – Brie Bella vs. Kelly Kelly

Kelly dominates early on and utilizes the Stink Face. Nikki interferes from the floor to give Brie the advantage. Brie works the arm, for a while. Kelly escapes finally and hits a Thesz Press. She unleashes some offense and when the referee tries to pull her back Nikki comes in the ring for Brie and hits the X-Factor to get the win for her sister in about 5 minutes.

WINNER – Brie Bella, *1/2

MATCH #6: World Heavyweight Championship Match – Randy Orton vs. Christian

Christian gets a quick rollup for one. They go back and forth a bit and Christian kicks Orton down to the floor. I get sidetracked by a stupid distraction and I come back to Orton hitting a superplex for two. Christian comes back with a backslide for two. He hits a spinebuster for another two-count. He tries a dropkick off the second rope but Orton catches him and grabs a jackknife pin for two. Christian reverses to a sunset flip for two. Orton tries the Angle Slam but Christian avoids it. Christian goes up top and hits the diving headbutt but Orton kicks out at two. Orton fights back and hits the Orton Backbreaker for two. He executes the Orton Stomp. They trade finisher attempts and Orton ends up grabbing Christian in the Billy Goat’s Curse and Christian gets to the ropes. Christian goes to the second rope and fakes Orton out, getting a sunset flip for two. Orton responds with the Orton DDT. He sets up for the RKO but Christian shoves him off. Christian calls for the Spear but Orton catches him with a powerslam! It only gets two. Orton sets up for the Punt but he has second thoughts and Christian drills him with the Spear! That gets a super near-fall and even I bought that. Christian goes for the Killswitch but Orton fights it off and tries the RKO but Christian fights that off, only to get re-reversed into another RKO and Orton retains the belt at about 16 minutes.

WINNER – Randy Orton, ****

Orton tries to help Christian to his feet, but Christian shoves him. Christian almost leaves but then goes back to shake Orton’s hand instead.

MATCH #7: Kiss My Foot Match – Michael Cole vs. Jerry Lawler

Cole comes out and says that he is not medically cleared to wrestle tonight. (9:59)He tries to show the referee the doctor’s note, but the referee tears it up and tells him to wrestle! Lawler is fired up and unloads on Cole with right hands and rips his pants! King hits the big dropkick and Cole rolls to the floor. Cole cheats to take the advantage and he takes his sock off and it’s all icky. Lawler recovers and throws Cole through the Cole Mine! Back in the ring Lawler goes up to the second rope, pulls the strap down, and hits the fist-drop to pin Cole in about 3 minutes.

WINNER – Jerry Lawler, *

Now it’s time for Cole’s uppance to come, as Lawler calls out Eve, who hits a moonsault off the top rope. King calls out another friend and it’s Good Ole JR! Ross pours BBQ sauce all over Cole, who tries to bail before kissing the foot. Unfortunately for Cole, Bret Hart is in the house! The Hitman forces Cole back into the ring and locks him in the Sharpshooter! King makes Cole kiss his foot and the crowd loves it!

I saw “That’s What I Am.” It wasn’t bad.

Jim Ross has joined the commentary team.

MATCH #8: WWE Championship I Quit Match – John Cena vs. The Miz

Before the match begins officially, Miz makes it a handicap match with Riley on his side, since there are no disqualifications and all. They go back and forth a bit in the opening minutes, with Cena holding his own. Riley then uses the briefcase to beat Cena down. Now Miz and Riley are fully in control, taking Cena outside and prepping the announce table. They hit him with the monitors but Cena will not quit. Miz hits a DDT on the steel steps. Riley picks up the steps and Miz advises Cena to quit, but of course he won’t. Miz grabs a kendo stick and Riley holds Cena’s arms up, leaving him wide open to the attack. Cena says Miz hits like a girl, so Miz cracks the stick across his chest. Cena is getting tortured with the stick. That looks incredibly painful. They take Cena up the entrance ramp and Miz hits a suplex on the steel. The abuse continues and Miz grabs a leather belt and whips him with it repeatedly. Cena still insults the Miz despite the intense pain he must be in. Cena fights up a couple of times as they make their way back to the ring. Miz hits a nasty Skull Crushing Finale on a steel chair. Cena is in rough shape as Miz tries to get the little kids in the front row to tell Cena to quit. Of course the kids are steadfastly behind their hero and won’t tell him to give in. Cena still refuses to Quit, so Miz cracks him in the skull with a steel chair. Then they steal the Royal Rumble ’99 finish as a recording of Cena says “I Quit.” Miz apparently wins the title around 24 minutes in.

WINNER – The Miz

However, the referee figures out their ruse and he waves it off. He restarts the match. Miz holds Cena for Riley to hit him with the belt, but Cena ducks and Miz takes the belt shot instead. Cena Adjusts Riley’s Attitude right through the announce table. He takes his belt off and whips Miz unmerciful up the ramp. Cena locks on the STF and Miz says “I Quit.”

WINNER (for real) – John Cena, ***

How come none of the announcers are acknowledging the wrestlers doing their homages to Randy Savage by doing flying elbow drops?

  • Storm

Cause Randy is still on Vince’s $hit list?

  • Joe

So reading this recap, it sounds like a glorified 3 hour episode of RAW. No title changes, and I will be shocked if Cena loses so I’m just going to say no title changes. Not even the damn IC title – another freaking predictable run in? Who the F wants to pay the money to see a PPV where nothing happens?

  • Joseph Hargrove

Eve and Bret were the best parts of the Lawler/Cole match hands down.

  • Storm

Eve makes sense considering what Cole has done during Diva matches, but Bret makes very little sense, especially cause the only other Kiss my foot match was Bret vs Jerry.

  • Limodriver

That was the worst main event “match” in a PPV in quite a while. By the end of it, I wanted to quit.

  • FishDude

rko, christian, cena and miz stole that shit . . . everythin else was slow and boring . . . still tryin 2 figure out when the kelly kelly and kharma lezzfest is gonna go down though ha

  • Mm

Sounds like a Fun PPV. Still can’t figure out why they didnt just lead the by on Christian until tonight though.

  • CB

I called it in the Roundtable, knew they were going to go for the “tape recorder” finish – glad it didn’t stick at least.

  • D.L. Butcher

    BOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

  • incognito

As an old school fan, Bret helping out the King just seems so…wrong. That feud got intensely personal and they never had them bury the hatchet.

Then again, they had Shawn Michaels refuse to apologize to Bret and then had Bret hug him, so maybe Bret’s going for an “overcompensating for being so bitter all those years” gimmick.

  • Joseph Hargrove

@Storm: The Hitman made sense because of the recent trouble Cole caused with Natalya(Bret’s niece for those who don’t keep up with wrestling families.)

  • owangotang

R-Truth going clean over Rey is the only thing remotely interesting about this show. I’m glad I smelled the whiff of stinker on this PPV and stayed away.

No Sheamus, Drew, UT, or Cody? Sin Caraaaaahhhhhomgibotchedagain gets a match? Miz destroys Cena for 20+ minutes and then Cena comes back and kills Miz dead in under 2? WTF was the point of all this? Why do I even watch?

  • Joe

Tagging on to that last comment, I too found it bizarre that we get no Cody given how hot he is right now. But since there’s no logical face for him to feud with, such is life. I mean, seriously, they could have tossed him and Ted on the PPV with a bag over the head stipulation if Ted lost and pushed back this new pairing of theirs by one week.

But even worse than no Cody is no match for Del Rio. How do you go from title shots at back to back PPVs to not even being on the next card? They should have kept him on Smackdown and moved Cody. But then they wouldnt have a way to cover up the botchiness of Sin Cara. And yeah – that match should have been a blow off on Smackdown, not a PPV.

So now with golden boys Cena and Orton manning the titles on both shows, how long are we going to go without a title switch? I just cannot see either of them losing at this point since they’re both built as unbeatable.

  • T

That’s What I Am was awful.

  • Limodriver

There are lots of heels on Raw would could cheat to win and take the title from Orton. The real problem is Cena since they’ve booked it such that I’m convinced he won’t lose before Wresltemania. Which makes me really not care about watching Raw for the next ten months. I don’t care to watch a two-PPV cycle of Cena beating Truth, and a three-PPV cycle of Cena beating ADR.

  • kenstar

how long will the entire wwe universe and the sheepish raw GM, realise that the regular interventions and deceitful methods of winning matches gonna stop and right now. it gives raw a totally different and uninteresting image as compared to smackdown. the miz, the corre, cm puck should be severely warned and earn waht they actually stand for

  • Steven Gepp

While Hitman might have been standing up for his niece, I also seem to remember Cole calling Bret unworthy of being in that big 7-man tag match against the original Nexus way back when, especially after Miz was overlooked. Sure, he may have gone to town on Daniels a little more, but he was still not in a positive place regarding Mr Hitperson.

  • Phil

Definitely the worst WWE pay-per-view show so far this year; only one match that exceeded a typical good quality pay-per-view bout. You could tell to with how hot the crowd was for Orton vs. Christian, and how steady the interest level was. It was a tremendous match and the only bright spot in an otherwise lifeless show.

I like where Truth is going with his program, however Mysterio was pretty subdued and the match was no better than average Smackdown quality.

Jackson/Barrett just kind of dragged; not a bad effort but it was not holding my attention very effectively. Jackson needs refinement on the mic; his delivery feels too forced and unnatural; kind of how John Morrison used to be.

All of the other matches were filler, watchable, but filler nonetheless. I am not liking Sin Cara very much so far; his matches are all predicated on waiting for him to hit his acrobatics, and the pacing is uneven and off-putting as a result. That and too many botches; the miscommunication with Chavo where Cara just stopped out of a run and pointed was awkward, and the finishing maneuver was a complete slopfest.

I have not viewed the Cena/Miz match yet, but it doesn’t sound like I missed all that much. Just another Cena performance/comeback/perseverance that would make Rocky Balboa shake his head in disbelief.

Josh Matthews and Booker T are the worst commentary duo in a long, long time. They are as bad as bottom-shelf guys from the darkest days of WCW. Does Matthews have to talk like his foot has been stomped on every time an impact move has been executed? And Booker T, he…………..oh, never mind.

  • Penny Sautereau-Fife

@CB; And I called it in the comments of a raw recap two weeks ago, what’s your point? The Rock/Foley finish was the only one that would’ve worked. Too bad they wussed out and had the ref “undo” his decision.
