The O’Really Report – The First Shot of the Ryder Revolution (Zack Ryder, Curt Hawkins, and Scott Stanford)
by Rhett Davis on June 3, 2011

Woo Woo Woo YOU KNOW IT! Welcome one and all to your Weekly Wednesday Wrestling Stop, The O’Really Report, and I am your Top 10%, Gold Wearing, Freshly Graduated Senior Host Rhett ‘The RAD’ Davis.  I missed Raw last week and so Kelly Kel… Floyd (Please don’t kill me Kelly…) had to pick up the slack for me on Monday Night Raw with the 10 Thoughts and she did a fantastic job of it.  Now that that business is adjourned, it’s on to the article at hand and first of all… I need to apologize.

I was DEAD wrong on Scott Stanford.

After watching all 14 episodes of Z! True Long Island Story, I must say that Scott is a highly humorous individual and his pitch is indeed varied from all of the other announcers currently in the product of WWE.  And this leads me to my article today.

In case you have been living under a rock or just not exactly ‘in’ with what’s going on with YouTube and Twitter, Zack Ryder is a big trender on Twitter and has over 108,000 Followers.  Followers, for those unbeknownst to Twitter terminology, means that a person is enabled to view what you have posted and can view your ‘Tweets.’  I’m not going through what the @’s and #’s mean on there, but you get the gist of what Twitter is.  Anyways, that means that over a 100,000 people have followed him and that’s HUGE since probably the majority of the world either A) doesn’t use Twitter or any other type of Social Network, B) doesn’t have computer knowledge, or C) doesn’t own a computer.  On YouTube, he has over 30,000 subscribers and over 1,000,000 views on his videos.  Probably a good majority of YouTube users don’t just subscribe to every semi-funny video they see, but Zack Ryder has 30,000 subscribers and that’s a huge accomplishment.  Now…

Superstars is now on and is played on Thursday and a couple of weeks ago The Major Brothers made their reunion.  Now Zack Ryder and newly reformed Tag Team partner Curt Hawkins are back together.  The WWE seems to finally be rebuilding up their Tag Team division and I think I speak for everyone when I say… FINALLY.  Curt Hawkins is also a big Tweeter and he has over 44,000 followers.  Scott Stanford, a regular on Z! TLIS, also is big on Twitter with over 8,000, which is big for a guy who is just an announcer if you think about it.  Now… this may just seem like a bunch of stats and calculations for no apparent reason, but I say all this to come to this conclusion…

Zack Ryder, Curt Hawkins, and Scott Stanford are monumental on Twitter and the Internet.  At every Raw since the beginning of Z! TLIS, there have been TONS of Broski of the Week signs.  There have been more BOTW signs than any other Superstar on the show!  Therefore…WHY is Zack Ryder not being pushed as a face?  I see that WWE seems to finally be coming to realism that Ryder is a fan favorite by the backstage antics, but he is more over than Evan Bourne, Kofi Kingston, or apparently Sin Cara by his lack of audience interaction.  Ryder should be getting that United States title not Kofi Kingston for the umpteenth time!

Now that they have Ryder and Hawkins together, doesn’t make sense that they push them as a fresh Face Team?  On Raw, which is chock full of heels including Miz, Punk, Nexus, R-Truth, McIntyre, Swagger, and more, they would have plenty of competition and really the WWE is in dire need of top faces.  They are dire need, yet they have two stars that are highly popular and can both wrestle/entertain!  I don’t understand what’s missing!  And if they are scared they can’t speak (for some reason) then give them Scott Stanford as a manager!  The guy is extremely entertaining on Z! TLIS whether he is selling an invisible jump rope, ‘Broski in a Bottle,’ or rapping to get John Cena on the show.  He can hold his own and so can the other two.

In a world of no heroes, there stands a team known as ‘The Broskis’ that can save us from the boringness of the top class of faces.  The Ryder Revolution has begun, if only the WWE could see that.

Well here’s my Macho Man remembrance piece…

Ever since I was a kid I could remember The Macho Man.  People who didn’t even watch the shows knew who Randy Savage was.  Everyone had seen the Slim Jim commercials, everyone knew OHHHHHH YEAHHHHH.  The only Superstars I would say are more world renowned are Hulk Hogan, Steve Austin, and possibly The Rock.  His matches were legendary and not because it was The Immortal vs The Immovable Object.  His matches were legendary because of the quality of the match.  No one could perform on the capability that Macho Man could in his heyday.  Very few superstars moved at such a pace that he did and almost no one escalated the top rope.  WrestleMania 3 is often solely remembered for The Hulk/Andre stare-down and slam, but Randy Savage and Ricky Steamboat are the men who tore the house down.  Thank you Randy Savage and may you always be remembered for what you were… The Macho Man.  Ohhhhhh YEAHHHHHHH!  Let the Madness continue into eternity.

Thanks for reading and don’t forget to leave a comment/suggestion/insult/compliment in the section below!

And quite frankly my dear… that’s a wrap!

I like zack, hes really funyy in his videos, but now he needs to show his skills in live tv, maybe these little rubs with cena can make him known with the wwe fanbase, because lets face it, in superstars, when he shows up, he doesnt get too much heat.
Maybe with some clips in raw, and a few matches he can be a recognized wrestler to the audience.

  • Patrick Spohr

@Lionshare I’m sure if Zack could showcase his mic abilities on TV, he would. He needs the push from WWE in order for that to happen.

Anyway, great column Rhett. I do agree that Zack should be pushed as a face, considering the total dearth of face talent on both shows. I would, however, be hesitant to say that the ‘E is building up their Tag-Team division again. I’ll need to wait and see if the ‘E will actually follow through this time.

As for the lack of push, that’s just Vince being Vince. He has trouble accepting anything he didn’t come up with himself, or capitulating to fan demands. It just seems like not pushing Ryder is simply bad business, but without a real threat from another promotion, I don’t think he’s that worried about catering to fan demand.

  • Kelly Floyd

I owe you one punch to the face, Rhett.

  • GEE

I’ll have to see it to believe it with the tag teams. But the deal with Zack I agree is not Vinces doing so he wont get the push he deserves. Christian left when the fans were peeping hard for him. However Vince did do a double take on Punk after he was so over so anythings possible. Just heard thru the grapevine who Rhett selected for his next duo column and its going to be “Awesome”. Where does the kid get his connections.

  • Mike Gojira

@GEE: I can answer that one for ya; he’s sleeping with the boss’s daughter.

  • Rhett Davis

@Goldfish: You’re just mad because the boss’s daughter didn’t take kindly to being sacrificed to an unknown Dark deity.
