Gail Kim Eliminated Herself From The Battle Royale
by Kelly Floyd on August 5, 2011

And no one noticed! Seeming to be an experiment, Gail Kim rolled out of the ring after hitting a bit of offense on Alicia Fox. After, she said she was “just checking to see if anyone was paying attention.”

She also went on to say, “oh and also on the contrary, I wasn’t being a mark 4 myself I was being a good employee when ur told to get out of the ring in less than a min.I just did it the fastest way possible:)so really I saved some time!”

Despite this, she is denying that it’s an attempt to leave the company. A fan tweeted her, asking that very thing, to which she replied, “Nooooo I’m not doing my best to get fired. Wrestling websites who like to make up news with their wild imagination…haha don’t believe it.”

And, this is why I love her.

    HAHAHAHAHAHHA. Okay, this is tremendous.

  • K Sawyer Paul

This was the first time I’ve seen an IWC writer not shit all over Gail for it. Good for you.

    This was my take.

  • CB

Thanks for posting this Kelly. Honestly, I don’t blame Gail one bit and I think it’s just AWESOME that she did this. She’s been underutilized, mismanaged, and this will go either of two ways: 1) WWE wishes her well in her future endeavots; or 2) They’ll appreciate her moxy and perhaps give her *SOMETHING* to do more than telling her to eliminate herself in under 1 minute.

  • CB

Replace “…than telling her to eliminate herself in under 1 minute” with “…than telling her to be eliminated in under 1 minute”

Either way, you get my point.

  • Rhett Davis

    @CB: Or she’ll quit. *shrugs*

  • Joseph Hargrove

@Rhett: Gail is indeed quitting, I just got word about it. Melina is gone as well so it’s not a good day for me as a divas fan.

@CB: I can’t blame Gail as I am a huge fan of her. I’m guessing it’s a way to get her out but still, I’m upset by this development.

  • Patrick Spohr

Hilarious. Yeah, I think quitting the WWE is the best thing for her, really. She’s a wrestler in a company that doesn’t care about female wrestlers, just sports models. She deserved to be utilized far more than she was.

Melina being let go is no huge surprise. I’ve never been too enamored with her work; she’s not awful, but I could just never get behind her. The real reason, or at least a good part of it, was all the locker-room drama she caused. If a backstage general like ‘Taker starts getting involved in your crap, then you’ve pissed some people off. I think I mentioned Melina possibly being let go in my “Caught in the Ropes” series on women’s wrestling.

  • CB

    @Joseph: Source? Was it on

@Patrick: I *HATE* Melina. Wonder if she’ll still show up in Z! True Long Island Story though.

  • CB

Actually I just saw on Chris Masters, Kozlov, DH Smith, Melina all future endeavored. Gail confirmed on Twitter she quit Monday. Interesting.

  • Joe Violet

I’m telling you guys, the Divas roster is looking really, really thin right now talent-wise.

  • Patrick Spohr

Let’s be honest, the Divas division has been weak for quite some time.

  • CB

Divas division has been awful since Trish and Lita and then Mickie left / was ousted.

  • Joe

Can someone tell me what I’ve missed on Gail? I have never found her even remotely compelling as a wrestler. She bored me to tears in her first WWE run, then I heard she was amazing on TNA, checked that out and she bored me to tears there, too. They bring her back again to the WWE and it’s a broken record. Meanwhile, I always hear how she’s underused. Isn’t that why she came BACK to the WWE? Sounds like she’s got a case of the Matt Hardy’s.

Maybe she’s just a shitty, boring wrestler/performer and we need to recognize that. Or I could just have some kind of bitter, blind hatred of her for no apparent reason. But I’m way more upset about Kozlov and Smith than I am of Gail Kim. And I really don’t give a dump about those two, either.

As for Melina, she was someone I wanted to see much more of the first time I saw her, then immediately wanted to see much less of and eventually none of. I guess the WWE felt the same way.

    Here’s the footage, hilarious:

I’m with Joe. I’ve never understood how anyone can find Gail Kim to be an exciting, watchable wrestler. The rest of you might really just have some weird, nerdy, “hot Asian” fetish thing going on for her; as for me, I don’t comprehend it at all.

  • Patrick Spohr

I like how your first thought is, “People like this female wrestler and I do not. The reason can only be attributed to a sexual fetish.” Some fans out there might rate female wrestlers purely on physical attractiveness, but I feel safe in stating that most people here value talent and ability over sex appeal. I think if you watch any of Gail’s matches with Awesome Kong in TNA and you don’t see how those two are better than just about every Diva on the WWE roster today, the problem here is you.

Good point, Patrick. For the record, my objection has nothing to do with looks. I did watch those matches with Kong, and I still didn’t like her. I guess there’s just some wrestlers out there that people do not like. For example, I dont care what Randy Orton has or ever will accomplish – I’d rather watch every single Umaga match over again. Not that I prefer brawlers – I just don’t like Randy.

Shameless self promotion, with clips of Gail-Kong from TNA, which Patrick alluded to:
