I don’t care for Cena much, but These two stars are so many worlds apart when it comes to market, exposure, and booking needs. What Sammartino did was great but it is really the equivalent of a 6 month reign by today’s standards. Back then the challengers rotated in and out from other territory markets and it kept it fresh without the dull “we have to shift the title to keep it interesting” mentality we have these days. The competition not the title was used to keep it exciting.

The storyline implications are anyone’s guess, but unsurprisingly HHH has come out as the central figure. CM Punk’s “outsider” heat is a distant memory, especially watching him right next to Cena the day after HIAC like the match never happened.
