The Torch is reporting that New Japan Pro Wrestling has been sold. Card game company Bushiroad has signed a deal worth a reported $6.5 million (U.S.) to acquire all shares on the company from video game company Yukes.

Bushiroad is no stranger to the pro wrestling business, having sponsored wrestling shows in Japan for some time, including the 2011 G1 Climax tournament.

NJPW, Japan’s longest-lasting and most successful promotion has seen attendance numbers and television ratings drop in recent years. According to the article, the sale is viewed as “the best option for the longevity of New Japan and for the talent on the roster.”

Ralphie’s rant: I have never been all that into the Japan scene. I appreciate what they do, but I have enjoyed the work of Muta and Liger and a few others who hail from over there, and I know a lot of my favorite stars have honed their skills in Japan, so I hope they do well under the new ownership.
