According to the June 4 Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the updated PPV buys for WrestleMania 28 is now estimated at 1,214,000. The breakdown here is 711,000 buys in North America and 503,000 buys in international markets.
Reports The Observer: “The number is lower than the 1.3 million figure the company released several weeks ago. From what we were told at the time, as noted here when the 1.3 million figure was announced, the revenue for the show seemed to add up to 1.22 million buys, is that they were expecting that with late buys the show would top 1.25 million. Thus, if rounded up, they could honestly say 1.3 million. They probably shouldn’t have announced the 1.3 million number when they did, since based on the numbers they had, they were far short of it, it was likely done because the company record was 1,250,000 in 2007, and they wanted to announce they had set a new record. And it is ahead of the pace as far as reported numbers from that show, and the odds are better than even that this show will end up breaking that record. But that’s not a sure thing.
Either way, the 4/1 show from Sun Life Stadium in Miami is by far the biggest grossing event in the history of pro wrestling, and ahead of all but the biggest boxing events of all-time, and UFC 100.”
