First off, let me apologize for missing last week. I had just returned from a lovely convention in Orlando and I experienced the “Con Funk” which eventually turned into a fever and some other nasty things that would’ve made my article increasingly more unintelligible than usual. But alas, I am here and I feel better and I am no longer hallucinating!
And sure, I could’ve roughed it out and posted whatever oozed out of my brain but it doesn’t to not really have anything to talk about. That’s right, folks, Chris is in full lull mode. That was until the big Paul Heyman reveal on Raw and the anger management payoff.
I know this was fully unintentional but I do like how the big discussion months ago was the possibility of Punk and Heyman working together in the near future. Both men (mostly Heyman) flat out denied that it was in the works, we said “yeah right” and were promptly preoccupied with how WWE was turning Punk heel and it reached a point where I was not expected at all to see Heyman driving the car. I completely understand that I was probably the only person that was surprised by that and I’m completely sure the entire IWC was predicting it the entire night and blah blah blah. My point is that I feel like WWE stumbled upon a great distraction from the big discussion going on rather than just ignoring it. It turn, what they did is ignored the discussion but did something else with that same character. I think they could’ve done the same with PTP and the AW situation because lets be honest, the only reason they really aren’t on TV much right now is because of AW getting fired and dealing the aftermath of it. However the situation is still kinda lingering out in some discussions and so what should’ve been done is still put the tag belts on PTP and put them in an entirely different feud than before (and probably staying away from managers just to be safe).
The Punk heel turn was done to where the main discussion seemed to be most people were contemplating if he was merely turning heel because he was going to go up against Cena. Then you throw in the crap with Punk and Lawler and soon everyone checked out mentally and didn’t give a single crap and we became more interested in the brilliant anger management segments. But then something brought a lot of people back…
Did CM Punk blade last week? That was the seemingly huge discussion going on last week online and now there’s still-shots to suggest that he did but what astounded me was the sheer mass of people talking and speculating how he pulled it off and what the punishment could be. I don’t really have much of an opinion one way or another but I brought it up to make this point: after the reveal last night, very few people seem to be talking about blading or even Jerry Lawler. So I come to one of two conclusions: either WWE got really lucky or they found a sweet spot with CM Punk and distracting us from things they don’t want us to focus on.
Let me map this out for you (Inception style):
The heel turn distracted us from talking about Heyman but then the Heyman reveal distracted us from talking about blading, it’s a beautiful cycle if you think of it. However, it’s a cycle that’s purely accidental because let’s be honest, give me a specific example where WWE planned something completely through and worked out to perfection both in execution and completion. I’ll wait.
All things aside, this is why I love wrestling and how I still have hope for WWE because every once in a while, when things are really slow and monotonous, they’ll pull the trigger on something and they’ll back their way into something that works by accident. The same can be said for the anger management pre-tapes because on paper, this looks like a terrible, corny idea that’s done only to eat up some of the 3 hours. However, when executed with the right players (Kane, Daniel Bryan, HAROLD!, and the doctor guy) it ends up being completely wonderful and a great change of pace. Of course, we are all waiting for WWE to find a way to screw it up, as always, but I’m enjoying it while it lasts.
Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do twice,
The Answer: So Ricardo is just now horribly affected by a Sheamus kick? Was there something special about this particular kick or was this the result of the continuous act of getting kicked in the head by Sheamus over the past 6 months?
