Harrak’s Quick Quips: WWE Raw 10.01.12 (CM Punk, Dolph Ziggler, Daniel Bryan, Kane)
by Matthew Harrak on October 1, 2012

- No offense Zack Ryder but Dolph Ziggler’s new t-shirt is “SSSSIIIIIIIICCCCCKKKKKK”!

- I can’t wait for the CM Punk DVD later this month. Anyone gets an advanced copy, I wouldn’t say no ;-)

- I seriously pop every single time Daniel Bryan shouts “I AM HANDSOME!”

- Woah Two-Face?! Ok so is it, “Rey Cara” or “Sin Mysterio”?

- It’s going to be awhile before Mysterio and Cara are cohesive as a tag team but to their credit, they are getting better every week.

- Brodus Clay doesn’t get his full entrance on a 3-hour Raw? That’s usually not a good sign.

- MY GOD! I knew Antonio Cesaro was strong but holy crap that was impressive!

- Um, that segment with AJ was a little more than “unstable”.

- This isn’t “JR Appreciation Night”, it’s “Let’s Debut Our New T-Shirts Night”.

- And if you don’t believe me, I just stumbled upon this on WWEShop.com:

- “Debate”. These might be my least favorite segments types in wrestling history.

- Love Big Show’s improvising skills. Oh and “Rey Mysterio O’Sullivan” was pretty good too.

- I’ve always said that Ryback’s finisher was awful. And then something like that happens. Ditch it and come up with something else or use the clothesline.

- WWE must be in panic mode with the Divas fleeing the company, especially if Eve takes some time off around her wedding. Maybe that’s why they’re trying to move AJ back into an in-ring role.

- Encore might be the oddest pairing of superstars in wrestling history. And I really don’t like it. Drew McIntyre worked a dark match as a babyface 2 weeks ago when I was in attendance and was over huge with the crowd. Wish they would have pursued that instead.

- This is a pretty good showcase for Damien Sandow but I honestly can’t get into the match at all.

- You know its bad when I just looked at the clock and popped that we are on the last hour. 3 hours is FAR FAR too long. There’s a reason why 90% of movies see a 3 hour running time as a box office death sentence.

- Okay the double Brogue Kick was awesome. Wonder if there’s ever been a double Sweet Chin Music…

- Very good segment and great live reaction for Ryback. That wasn’t just John Cena or CM Punk haters chanting “Feed Me More”, that was the entire arena. I don’t know about you but I’m getting excited for this something new.

- Ricardo Rodriguez is on commentary!!!! Why am I so excited???!!!

- “How do you say that in Spanish?”
“Ouch.”

- I don’t think AJ’s referee’s shorts are even close to being as tight as the ones Shawn Michaels used to wear.

- That was a weird way to end the show, without even a shot of CM Punk leaving. Seems like Kane and Daniel Bryan are considered a main event tag team now.

I wasn’t aware that “Encore” had a name, but the pairing is logical, story wise. Three heel jobbers who can’t seem to get anything done on their own teaming up for the strength in numbers advantage.

As far as McIntyre goes, I thought he had an impressive showing when they used him as filler in the 2011 Elimination Chamber match, but nothing ever came of that, even though he “maximized his minutes” as JR would say.

I think Jinder is a waste of space and Slater probably wont ever rise above jobber status, but I am mildly curious to see if they can make anything of this group or if it’ll just flop like every other stable they’ve tried for the past few years.

Is that encore or The EncoRRe? ;)

Also, love that Team Hell No shirt.

The combination can be mutually useful. Slater has been getting over as a heel jobber, so as the mouthpiece of the group, he can definitely get heat on guys that have had some trouble doing that in the past. On the other hand, McIntyre and Jinder can handle the in ring side of the equation. Basically, they’ve built up Slater for a while now, so if they can use that build to get not only him, but a couple other guys over, good for ‘em, especially since outside of turning face and being a Santino comedy face jobber instead of a comedy heel jobber, it would be hard to do much with Slater. By giving him cronies, he can win in spite of a his rep, while keeping up the annoying heel routine while fighting bigger threats (and miscommunications can easily allow him to still job out when needed, but it’s no longer a sure thing).

I agree that it has potential. As I said, I’m curious if they can make it work or not. Although I would argue that I’ve yet to see Jinder put out a passable match. It really seems like the only reason he’s around is to be a token Indian, a la Khali.
