CB’s Slant: Powerless (Hurricane Sandy and WrestleMania 29)
by CB on October 31, 2012

So I am writing this while charging my phone in my car. The Weather Channel was right: car chargers are the unsung heroes that are keeping us completely out of the dark during the predicted power outages from Hurricane Sandy.

Out here in Long Island, about 90% of us lost power, equating to 900K-plus power outages. The wind was the thing that caused the most damage, and driving locally on these roads is a defensive driving instructor’s dream — trees down, power lines dangling, horses crossing the road (OK, not that one) — and everyone else’s nightmare.

I was lucky. No property damage. No flooding. Family and friends safe. One neighbor has a hole in his roof from a fallen tree, and there were some other close calls.

To all of our friends and readers in coastal flood zones up and down the Northeast Corridor and to everyone submerged in lower Manhattan, my heart goes out. I know what it’s like to be powerless, right now more than ever.

Speaking of powerless, let me at least add one wrestling (foot)note to these proceedings. WrestleMania 29 tickets go on sale soon — Sat. 11/10 to be exact. Obviously, no matter how much we care and no matter what we write or think or feel, we are more powerless than ever when it comes to WWE actually listening to our ideas for booking their biggest show of the year.

And if the early reports are any indication — with HHH-Brock II and Cena-Rock II and who knows what for CM Punk and The Undertaker this year — I just feel like this card is likely going to be something that does not inspire me to buy tickets nor will it make me want to trek over to NJ to stand in line with 80,000+ on that fateful Sunday.

After all, since we are powerless to WWE’s increasingly annoying whims, the only thing I can do to reclaim any semblance of pride is to simply take a pass on WrestleMania tickets when they go on sale in 11 days.

And hey, at least I won’t have to pay any surcharges and service fees while feeling better about myself for skipping out on all of the impending disappointment that will be WrestleMania 29.

That’s all from me — no idea when I’ll post again but stay safe like WWE’s booking — CB.

Well said CB, glad you and your friends are safe. I live down in WV so the worst we got was random rain and snow for a few days.

Thanks Zork, we may not have power for two weeks.

Good to hear you are doing okay Chris. Hope the rest of the Pulse brain trust in the northeast is doing okay.

Mark! Thanks man. I’m currently on the first train out of LI heading into work, and of course 16 minute delays already. It’s been a crazy 72 hours
