Full Details For Triple H: Thy Kingdom Come DVD Release
by Travis Leamons on July 15, 2013

If there’s been a WWE personality that has been deserving of a new compilation/retrospective release it’s Triple H. When it was announced that the once HHH now COO would be getting a new DVD set, Triple H: Thy Kingdom Come, I was surprised that he’s only had three character profiles (two 1 disc DVDs and a two-disc set) and the last one was released in 2007. That may sound like a lot, but The Rock has at least five character profiles, dating back to the OOP WWF DVDs days, like The People’s Champ.

Over at Wrestling DVD News, they have revealed the content that will be part of the DVD and Blu-ray sets.

Triple H’s Thy Kingdom Come will be available beginning September 24, 2013.

See, the documentary sounds terrific. The match selection, on the other hand, is terrible. I suppose some of his better work against Rock, Batista, HBK, JeriShow and Taker has already been released on DVD, and his more recent matches against Punk and Nash are better off being forgotten, but the lack of quality bouts on the disc speaks volumes about his lack of significant in-ring contribution over the last decade. And TWO last man standing matches (both of which dragged like anything)? Sheesh…

You know what doesn’t sound terrific? You not commenting like EVERYONE else did for my Interinactivity return. After all my years of faithful, selfless, tireless, loyal service. The only other one who didn’t was Flaming Wrongbat. That’s what level you’re at now, James.

You know what match should have been on this DVD? James Alsop’s Carelessness .vs. BD’s Tender Feelings.

I agree that the match selection could be better. For example, there was no need to have the Backlash 2001 match between Austin/HHH and UT/Kane, as that was a very boring tag match with none of the heat the feud suggested. They could easily have put in the Kane v. HHH chain match for the IC title, which was a bit better, and at least shorter. Of course, ideally, they would have had Benoit/Jericho win the tag belts from HHH & Ausitn the next day, but that wasn’t going to happen.

However, a lot of HHH’s matches have been on other DVD sets, so perhaps they’re pretty much scraping the barrel to find something that hasn’t been on a compilation. But then again, that hasn’t stopped them from having the Mankind v. UT HitC match on at least three or four different compilations–or UT v. HitC.

Has the Jericho v. HHH last man standing match from Fully Loaded 2000 made it to a compilation? I’d rather see that than either of the LMS matches that are posted.

Michael, that Last Man Standing match was included on the Triple H DVD “That Damn Good.” Matches on the disc included:

Street Fight Match vs. Vince McMahon (from Armageddon 1999) – Also found on the McMahon DVD release.

Championship/Street Fight Match vs. Cactus Jack (from Royal Rumble 2000) – Also found on the Royal Rumble 2000 WWF DVD, Royal Rumble Anthology, Mick Foley’s Greatest Hits & Misses, and Triple H: The Game DVD releases.

Man Standing Match vs. Chris Jericho (from Fully Loaded 2000) – This is the first (and so far) only time this match has appeared on a WWE DVD release.

WWE Champion The Rock vs. Kurt Angle (from SummerSlam 2000) – Also found on the SummerSlam 2000 WWF DVD, the SummerSlam Anthology, History of the WWE Championship and The Epic Journey of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson DVD releases.

Stages Of Hell vs. Steve Austin (from No Way Out 2001) – Also featured on the Legacy Of Stone Cold Steve Austin DVD release.

WWE Undisputed Champion Chris Jericho (from WrestleMania X8) – Also featured on the WrestleMania X8 DVD and WrestleMania Anthology set.

Thanks for pointing that out. I’d have to check my collection, but I don’t have that one in my collection. I’ve got the first Triple H set released in 2000 or so, as well as the one released in the mid 2000’s, but not the one you mentioned. However, since I have just about all of the other matches on DVD elsewhere, it’s probably not worth getting “That Damned Good” unless I can find a used copy relatively cheap.
