Charlie Reneke's Archive

The only never-before posted Royal Rumble review from Charlie and thus the only one to hit Inside Pulse this Rumble Season. That sucks, but not as much at this year’s Rumble match.

What was everyone worried about? This is the best disc in the set! Read on.

Steiner offered the world title in 1991? WCW backs out on a promise to Flair? Read on as this set’s quality is taken away faster then a Jack Swagger push.

The three-part epic review begins. Sting in a good match? Abe Lincoln: Pro Wrestler? Clipped matches? It’s all here.

Charlie is back to rant about Rey Mysterio, rave about triple-threat matches, and steal money from dying children.

Bret is coming back to the WWE for what will sure to be a fun, albeit short stint in the company. And unlike Bret after his stroke, this DVD isn’t half-bad. Read the match reviews here, plus what Charlie wants done with Bret Hart during his run with the company.

Bragging about this show would be like getting slipped a roofie and date raped, but bragging about how good the dinner was before it. Charlie shares his thoughts on one of the worst shows of the year.

Packed with more ego then a DVD should be able to handle. In fact, the Ultimate Anthology refused to put over Shawn Michaels: Heartbreak & Triumph. DVD politics… man that’s harsh.

Three-Starmania is running wild! While you wait for the Unreleased Collection (shouldn’t it be called Released Collection now?) enjoy this review of the first set. Or second set. Whatever. Brotha.

Still no Jericho set. Yeah, I know. I’m disappointed too. Now I have to listen to you guys whine about that for another year or so.

In the TV-PG era, shouldn’t this show be called “Heck in a Cell” or something similar?

Thankfully Batista does not walk alone. Otherwise his matches would be pretty one sided.

The first nine matches of Batista’s DVD set. He might be a piece of luggage, but this set most certainly doesn’t suck. According to Charlie at least, and you KNOW how he is.

The Beast is Unleashed. In this case, that beast is Charlie, who digs into the new Batista set. This is just the feature. The matches will follow in the coming days.

Christan and MVP wrestle very well while Shawn Michaels and Triple H totally stink up the joint? Randy Orton becomes a psychological God? Is this a Way Too Long Review or the Twilight Zone?

You can currently buy this show for the low price of $7.50 at Wal-Mart. Is it worth it? And why isn’t Randy Orton working out as champion?

We’ve reached the end of the Best of Smackdown, where Charlie saves his venom for Tribute to the Troops shows and the 9-11 Smackdown tribute, which the WWE would say makes him “UnAmerican.” As if Charlie would be caught dead hanging out with Lance Storm and William Regal.

Part Two of Three includes Charlie ranting on what killed Rikishi’s push, what the WWE was thinking with JBL, what a bitch Bob Holly was and is, and I think he also reviews a DVD somewhere in there.

By popular request, Charlie tackles the Best of Smackdown, one disc at a time. Today’s topics: Single-Name Wrestlers, Death Angles, and some shockingly decent matches.

That’s right, I own a time machine. Actually, this review is for the HiaC compilation released in October of 2008.

Charlie tears the ’second biggest show of the year’ a new pooper as he rants and rages on the staleness of the WWE. He also picks on instant replays, Ted DiBiase, and names his new pick for worst match of the year. This review is a little more heavy on the personal opinions then most.

Charlie moves onto the Best Buy exclusive releases. This time around, it’s Hulk Hogan and Bob Backlund. Why does the LOW DVD that features the most popular wrestler of all time have the fewest matches? Charlie doesn’t have those answers, but he still has a review for you.

The final part of the main three-disc Legends of Wrestling set is placed under the microscope. Surely Ric Flair’s presence alone makes this a set worth owning? Why is Bruno Sammartino such a jerk? Does electricity and wrestling mix? What is the overall verdict for the three-disc main set? (Answers: No, Because, No, It Sucks)

Mirror Mirror on the Wall… what’s the worst wrestling DVD of them all.

Hey, TNA doesn’t count.

It’s this one? And Charlie gets to review it? Goody.

The first of six reviews over the next six days concerning the Legends of Wrestling series. Charlie tackles to the logic of the Scott Hall/Kevin Nash feud, the disgusting nature of Vince Russo, and tries to sit through a worked boxing match with Buff Bagwell. Unlike a Mick Foley story, this review goes somewhere.

All eight WWE Championships are on the line. Charlie’s opening monologue addresses the status each belt and is a must read. He also addresses why the female division of the WWE isn’t working, why he fears CM Punk’s new character will be aborted, why the WWE needs to freshen up the Raw main event scene, and which WWE star should be fired. Somewhere in there is a review of the show.

Charlie’s epic-sized review of the WCW set concludes, and the promised dip in match quality does happen. BUT WAIT~!! because there are still some quality matches to be had here, with an average star rating only slightly below Dennis Rodman’s blood-alcohol level. That’s higher then it sounds.

It’s time to hit the matches of the WCW set, starting with the disc that Charlie calls “The best single disc collection of matches the WWE has put out.” But there is some venom to go around, especially concerning Dusty Rhodes and Sting. Why are you even reading this? Go buy the damn set already.

By popular request, Charlie has decided to split up his review of the Rise & Fall of WCW into three parts, one for each disc. Here you will get a full recap of the main feature. As usual, Charlie fills in all the gaps that were missed and addresses some of the issues the WWE ignored completely. Advanced apologies for the dated jokes.

It only took the WWE eight years but they finally put out a set dedicated entirely to WCW’s flagship pay-per-view. And they turned the match-listing over to the fans to decide. Sigh. Charlie goes after those who voted in the matches and the various insane booking decisions in this set, which should be called the “The ‘Essential’ Starrcade” with quotes added for smart-assery.

Charlie is back and used his down time during his vacation to write this, the largest review ever published on Pulse. Check out the most comprehensive review of the recent Saturday Night’s Main Event DVD and enjoy the back stories and history lessons he has to offer.

Charlie finishes catching up to all the released 2009 shows by reviewing The Bash, which apparently isn’t ‘great’ or ‘American’ anymore. He also responds to outrage over his review of the Last Man Standing match from Backlash.

The hate is really poured on as Charlie gives Backlash 2009 a look-over. Watch for an extended rant on the lack of elevation in the company, and also for Charlie to make an early pick for Worst Match of the Year. I bet it’s not the match you’re thinking. This might be his review yet.

Charlie has been dreading this review. Was he wrong about Wrestlemania 25 being awful? Legends are made, Matt Hardy gets ripped a new anus, and the IWC’s worst fear is realized. It’s Wrestlemania, baby, and it’s 100% Kid Rock free on DVD.

Charlie’s 2009 WWE PPV marathon continues with a show he attended live. Tonight’s victims? Elimination Chamber matches, the people of Washington, Shane McMahon, Matt Striker’s face, Texans, the Chicago Cubs, and some dude that he won $20 off of during the live show. Good times will be had by all. Except for the dude who lost the $20.

In this monster sized review, Charlie breaks down the latest compilation DVD from the WWE and goes off on his usual rants and retrospectives. Oh, and he calls Vince McMahon a ‘pussy’ for censoring the word ‘ass’. Good times are had.

Charlie’s run through 2009’s Pay Per Views starts at the beginning when he tackles the Royal Rumble. Will the PPV love-fest continue or will he bring the hatred?

Charlie argues the case for Sean Hannity’s live waterboarding at Wrestlemania, the case against unmasking Rey Mysterio, and explains what the WORST MOVE EVER~! is and how it can be used to save lives. Oh and somewhere in there is a review for Extreme Rules 2009. Pull up a chair, as he brings the insight once again.

Charlie catches up with the first WWE Pay Per View he didn’t order since 2004. Did he enjoy it? He also rants about poor pyro ventilation, Christian, and Big Show’s epic slowness. Smart fans, get ready to bitch and moan about Charlie giving yet another good score to a Batista match.

Charlie Reneke pours over the twenty-three matches included in the latest WWE DVD set and rants about Savage’s place in WWE History.
