Full results for the July 10th episode…

- Jeff Hardy comes out wearing an eye patch to a huge pop. He cuts a short promo about how his eye injury is about as realistic as C.M. Punk’s one.

- Kane beats Jeff Hardy with a chokeslam. Punk’s music plays and he comes out to observe from the stage, which distracts Hardy and leads to the finish.

- Dolph Ziggler beats John Morrison. Before the match, Morrison meets with Teddy Long to confirm that he could challenge the winner of the world title match at Night of Champions. Ziggler wins with a roll-up whilst pulling the tights.

- Melina & Eve Torres beat Michelle McCool & Layla when Melina pins Layla.

- C.M. Punk cuts a promo on Jeff Hardy, who is at ringside to do commentary on Punk’s match. He says:

“Are you happy Jeff? You come out earlier wearing an eye patch mocking me? I could have been seriously injured because of you! You see this right here? This is Dyhydroxy Sulfate — I have to put it in my eye three times a day. It’s the only foreign substance I’ll allow in my body. Now Jeff, I know you know a lot about prescription medication but, see, to get this legally you have to get it from a doctor. If you want to be like me, with your little eyepatch, instead of doing that, why don’t you try living a clean lifestyle, a straight edge lifestyle? Jeff, you have two strikes, do you know how many I have? ZERO. Do you know how many times I’ve been suspended Jeff? ZERO. Do you know how many times I’ve been to a rehab facility in my life? ZERO. Do you know what your chances are for beating me at Night of Champions Jeff? ZERO”

- C.M. Punk beats Khali by DQ after Kane turns up with a chair and fights with Khali.

- Hart Dynasty beat Cryme Tyme with the Hart Attack.

- Rey Mysterio beats Chris Jericho in about 15 minutes to retain the Intercontinental Title. Mysterio gets a huge pop from the crowd. Edge and Dolph Ziggler attack Mysterio after the match.

- Brie Bella beats Katie Lea Burchill. Nikki Bella was outside the ring and switched with Brie when the referee was distracted, leading to the finish.

- Shelton Benjamin beats Yoshi Tatsu in a ten-minute match. There were some “Let’s Go Shelton” chants. They wrestled a rather stiff style. Yoshi got a good reaction from the crowd.

- Ezekiel Jackson squashed a jobber.

- Abraham Washington hosted his talk show, getting some boos. Tommy Dreamer was his guest and got ribbed a lot by Washington for being out of shape, including this exchange:

Washington: “How’s being the oldest superstar on ECW going for you?
Dreamer: “About as well as this talk show is going for you”

- Christian beat Vladimir Kozlov to earn an ECW title match at Night of Champions.

Silvervision has unveiled the final specs about the upcoming Rise and Fall of WCW DVD release.

Yesterday, Iain Burnside posted a speculative listing from Netflix. I had seen the information posted elsewhere, but I held off on posting the information until I knew something more concrete. Now I do.

According to Silvervision, The Rise and Fall of WCW will be spread across three discs. The first disc will contain a substantial documentary feature as well as interview remarks that didn’t make the cut. Discs two and three are the match portion of collection. There will be 20 matches in all. Here’s how it breaks down:

In Jim Ross’ latest blog post, he asks fans to be patient with the new mix of old and new superstars on ECW (see our exclusive WWE transaction history page for details)…

He says, “ECW is going to be a mix of a handful of vets mixxing it up w/ several rookies. WWE has many, talented youngsters who will make ECW their home for the foreseeable future. This show will showcase their ever improving skills.w/ some talents winning, some losing and all of them improving. That’s the goal. Got a feeling this show will be feast or famine w/ no lack of effort. Sheamus, the Keltic Warrior is a keeper. Kovlov had a good nite. There is something good in the future for the Russian. Abraham Washington’s “talk” show will be challenging at first but the young man can talk. Patience for these young kids will be needed by all involved but they’ll succeed with hard work and the leadership of the vets.ECW will be unpredictable without question. I expect Christian, Dreamer & Regal to be viable vets on Tues nite.”

The Smackdown announcer also talks in detail about what he’s liking about the Friday night roster, in particular the Hart Dynasty’s potential and CM Punk’s growing stardom. Good read, as always.

ROH returns to Detroit on December 4th and we roll back into Chi-Town on September 19th! Tickets are on sale for both events at www.rohwrestling.com, and don’t forget, on 9/19 in Chicago, Bret “Hitman” Hart will appear!

Tyler Black went toe-to-toe with KENTA for nearly twenty minutes last Saturday, and it took TWO Go-2-Sleeps for KENTA to secure the victory. The ROH faithful chanted “this is awesome” as the match went on, and both men, exhausted from the incredible display, showed immense respect for one another as they shook hands and embraced after the final bell tolled. “It took me a few times before I was able to beat Bryan (Danielson),” said Black. “And I feel like I was a lot closer to beating KENTA in my first try than I was with Dragon. I am already looking forward to proving myself to KENTA again.” Perhaps a budding rivalry was born last Saturday night in Chicago.

Jimmy Jacobs left the Frontier Fieldhouse last Saturday night in a much different way than he had hoped. After the shocking events of Detroit on Friday night, where some 50 members of the Age of the Fall swarmed the ringside area, overwhelming security and the fans, Jacobs appeared to have been reveling in his role as a God among Man. In that surreal scene, with his followers carrying him out of the building on their shoulders like a King, Jacobs looked like he’d outsmarted everyone. But Saturday night in Chicago couldn’t have been a more perfect example of the opposite – his followers, down in numbers, actually left him behind after Tyler Black, El Generico, Kevin Steen, and Delirious thwarted whatever plan Jacobs had. As Jacobs was hung from the rafters, shouts of “disappointment” filled the air, and when it was all done, Jacobs bolted through the front door and was seen on his knees in tears as the rain fell outside. All attempts to contact Jimmy Jacobs since Saturday have gone unanswered.

Nigel McGuinness said that fate was on his side as he rolled into Chicago. But the man that has been stirring the pot was visibly shaken after falling to ROH World Champion Austin Aries last weekend. Fans have noticed a lack of the patented McGuinness Lariat since he’s returned to action, and more than one has commented that Nigel just doesn’t look like himself. Sources have intimated that Nigel is having a rough time trying to reinvent himself in the ring, as he’s physically unable to use the maneuver that made him famous. He’ll have two more opportunities to right the ship when ROH returns to Toronto for ‘Death Before Dishonor VII’ weekend. We’ll have Nigel’s match announcements soon, right here in the ‘wire.

Attention Toronto! Ring of Honor is happy to announce that the official ROH After Party on July 24th will be housed at ‘The Champions’ Den Sports Bar’ – a brand new sports bar and eating establishment in the heart of Greek Town on Toronto’s east end! The Champions’ Den offers a one-of-a-kind experience, with great food and rink, all while showcasing all of your favorite combat sports – MMA, Boxing, and Pro Wrestling! Oh, and it’s owned and operated by long-time member of the Embassy – Jade Chung! The Champion’s Den opens for business on July 20th, with the ROH after party on the 24th, and is located at 397 Danforth Avenue, Toronto, ON M4K 1P1. For more info, go to http://www.facebook.com/pages/edit/?id=120395420931#/pages/Toronto-ON/THE-CHAMPIONS-DEN-SPORTS-BAR/120395420931?ref=ts. We’ll see you all there on July 24th!

Kevin Steen and El Generico did it! They’ve defeated the American Wolves and in doing so, have earned the right to name a date and stipulation for their next championship match. “It was only a matter of time,” said Steen. “The Wolves have shown they’ll go to any length, stoop to any level, dig into any garbage can, but at the end of the day, we took it all and kept coming back. Now we get our shot, our chance to take back the World Tag Team Titles, and we wanted it in Toronto! But of course, Eddie Edwards strategically scheduled a NOAH tour for himself so Generico and I have to wait. But that’s fine, rest assured, we’ll both be in action in Toronto. And Davey, I know you’ll be in Toronto too. And we’ve all seen that Wolves don’t hunt so well when they’re by all by themselves.” Davey Richards refused comment other than to say, “I’ll be in Toronto, but I’ll hardly be alone, fatty.” More on this as it develops.

The ROH Tag Team division gets better and better, as ‘The House of Truth’ – Josh Raymond and Christin Able managed by Truth Martini – impressed ROH officials in Detroit. Mr. Martini is currently in negotiations to bring the House back to ROH in the near future.

D-Lo Brown made a statement in Chicago last Saturday when he was able to defeat Roderick Strong. “What can Brown do to you?” said D-Lo. “Ask Roddy. And in Toronto on July 25th, in the first ever Toronto Gauntlet, I’ll show five other wannabes. And when it’s finished, I’ll be looking at you Austin Aries. And I owe you one.”

The Ring of Honor online store now stocks a full line of Pro Wrestling Guerrilla DVD’s. You can order all of these items here: http://www.rohwrestling.com/shoponline.asp?point=products&catid=321.
Attention fans in South Philly! ROH and HDNet have reached an agreement with The Arena to move the next set of ROH on HDNet National Television Tapings up by a couple of weeks. ROH and HDNet will now tape six more weeks of the best wrestling on television on August 14th and 15th! Tickets are available and on sale now at www.rohwrestling.com, and those who already purchased tickets for the original 8/28 and 8/29 dates can use those tickets on 8/14 and 8/15!

- C.M. Punk comes out to proclaim his innocence for kicking the referee at THE BASH. He demands an apology from Jeff Hardy for attacking him after the match on purpose. Teddy Long says Hardy gets a rematch at Night of Champions.

- Finlay beats Ricky Ortiz with the Celtic Cross.

- Dolph Ziggler and Maria talk about their date from last night. Huh?

- Dolph Ziggler beats R-Truth, who decides to celebrate his loss with some dancin’ anyway. Fair ’nuff.

- Kane beats Rey Mysterio with a chokeslam. Khali saunters out to chase Kane away with a chair. Best. Feud. Ever.

- Chris Jericho announced he had a rematch with Mysterio next week.

- Cryme Tyme beat the Hart Dynasty when Shad pinned David Hart Smith.

- Melina & Maria beat Layla & Michelle McCool when Melina pinned Layla.

- John Morrison and Teddy Long sing Michael Jackson songs backstage. Can’t even begin to imagine Jim Morrison doing such a thing.

- Edge & Chris Jericho beat C.M. Punk & Jeff Hardy. Punk sold his eye throughout the match and refused to tag in Hardy. Hardy then slapped Punk to tag himself in at one point. Punk later went to tag in Hardy but Hardy oversold an eye injury of his own. Punk managed to hit Jericho with the GTS but then got speared by Edge after a blind tag and pinned.

I just woke up and I can barely walk. I’m getting too old for two matches a night…

Elsewhere on his Twitter page, Jericho puts over Rey Mysterio, calling him a “real life superhero” who’s a pleasure to work with. It’s nice to see that they don’t have to be “in character” when tweeting, although Jericho cutting a heel promo via Twitter would be pretty great.

PW Torch’s James Caldwell provides a look at WWE’s brutal road schedule over the next two weeks. I’d put that in quotes, but it’s kind of hard to disagree with them when you look at it:

– June 30: Double TV taping in Fresno, Calif.
– July 1: SD/ECW house show in Bakersfield, Calif.
– July 2: SD/ECW house show in Palm Springs, Calif.
– July 3: SD/ECW house show in San Diego, Calif.
– July 3: Raw house show in Auckland, New Zealand
– July 4: Raw house show in Sydney, Australia
– July 5: SD/ECW house show in Honolulu, Hawaii
– July 5: Raw house show in Brisbane, Australia
– July 6: Raw house show in Adelaide, Australia
– July 7: Raw house show in Melbourne, Australia
– July 7: SD/ECW house show in Tokyo, Japan
– July 8: Raw house show in Perth, Australia
– July 8: SD/ECW house show in Tokyo, Japan
– July 10: SD/ECW house show in Manila, Philippines

Wonder how many of these shows he and Edge are going to work?

Johnson also offers a hodgepodge of info on ROH talent. It includes an update on Larry Sweeney who, according to accounts given by those who saw him after last week’s show in Chicago, is in very bad shape. There are fears “that something bad is going to happen to him” if he doesn’t seek help, according to Johnson’s sources, one of whom choked up when talking about it.

In lighter talent news, Bret Hart will be signing at the September 19th show in Chicago Ridge and Little Guido is booked for the August TV tapings.

Also of note is a match announced for the July 24th Toronto Show. Jerry Lynn, Davey Richards, Jimmy Rave, Necro Butcher, D’Lo Brown and Sonjay Dutt will be taking in part in a Toronto Gauntelt match.

Finally, the no compete clause the company signed with former owner Rob Feinstein has ended, so ROH can being selling DVDs from a wide variety of indie companies, including PWG. You can check that out at their store.

In it, he talks about his WWF run with Arn Anderson as the Brain Busters, covering everything from the best and worst teams they faced during their stay, the WWF having to confiscate Four Horsemen signs, and dealing with NBC script writers on Saturday Night’s Main Event:

“… I used to get into arguments with the NBC people doing promos for it because they were trying to write stuff I wouldn’t say. I said you don’t know who Tully Blanchard is. You don’t know who my character is. How can you tell me what I’m going to say? That wasn’t exactly a great career move (laughs). Besides that I couldn’t memorize and regurgitate anyway. “

Thankfully, nothing like that happens these days.

Matt Hardy has been tweeting up a storm lately. Topics include seeing a doctor about his abdominal injury, the Hardy Show, being traded back to Smackdown (he’s happy about it), and his annoyance at a wrestling journalist who shall remain nameless because Matt doesn’t name him. Also, you can find out about all the places he’s been eating at lately!

Evan Bourne also expressed happiness about switching brands in tweet form.

PWI’s Dave Scherer passes along quotes from an interview Edge did to promote tonight’s TV tapings. The Rated R Superstar talks about how, despite being a ladder match veteran, his recovery from falling off a ladder isn’t improving with age:

“That one really took it out of me. Ten years ago if we did that match you know maybe in a few days we would have felt a lot better. We were 10 years younger though. Now, it took me almost a full week before I could walk upright.”

Scherer also passes along word that Canadian fans will be able to catch the “WWE Vintage Collection” show on the Score (Saturday at 7 PM EST starting this week) and gives this week’s line up for WWEClassics.com. It includes a feature on next week’s guest GM Ted Dibiase (with stories about growing up with the Million Dollar Man as your dad from Ted Jr.), Bret Hart vs. Mr. Perfect in 1989, and the first Triple H vs. Randy Orton PPV main event for those of you who haven’t had enough of that match up lately (or who want to see their roles reversed; Orton was a face in that one).

Ross Forman of TNAwrestling.com conducted an interview with TNA President Dixie Carter on the state of wrestling. Of course since this interview appears on the official TNA website, some needs to be taken with a grain of salt, but some interesting notes:

On WWE Ratings falling year over year:
“We actually don’t want that to happen,” Carter said. “We want everyone’s ratings to go up. In order to succeed, we don’t think we have to take ratings away from anyone else. As a wrestling industry, we all have to grow the fan-base worldwide.

“We can’t just say we’re going to beat Raw (in the ratings). Right now, that’s unrealistic. We had to start with a more obtainable goal to beat the ratings of our competitor’s third-rated show, ECW – and we’ve done that.

“I have heard people say, ‘It’s not a big deal to beat their lowest rated show,’ but I disagree. It’s a huge success for TNA, which five years ago had just 300,000 viewers in a Friday afternoon timeslot on Fox Sports. So now we’re setting our sights on their second-rated show, Smackdown – and that gap has closed significantly over the past six months.”

On Possibly Moving Impact to Compete with WWE Raw or Smackdown:
When asked if Thursday night will remain in TNA’s future, Carter confirmed, “Nothing is set in stone, but no move is being planned right now. Our goal has always been to be competitive and go head-to-head against one of our competitor’s programs. So we hope that might happen sometime in the future.”

On Today’s Audience vs the Monday Night Wars:
“The audience of 2009 is significantly different from the audience during the height of the WWF-WCW run. And we have to continue to change accordingly. Today’s fans are smarter, more involved. They don’t want their intelligence insulted, and we have been guilty of that at times in the past. Can we please everyone all the time? No, that’s not realistic. But you have to strive to please them much more than not.”

Superstars for Thursday
* Santino Marella b The Brian Kendrick

Superstars for 7/9
* Hornswoggle b Chavo Guerrero with the tadpole splash. Chavo had to wrestle the entire match on his knees. This went WAY too long

Raw for 7/6
* Ted DiBiase Sr. was in charge. He came out as a heel, but he actually got one of the best reactions of the night as people saw him as a returning legend. He came out with Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase Jr. so he’d get a heel reaction, but the people didn’t get it. Somewhere in the middle of the promo people caught on he was playing heel.

* He announced Chris Jericho & Edge vs. Ted DiBiase & Cody Rhodes for the tag titles at Night of Champions. Apparently there is a moratorium as from next week forward there can be no title matches on television until the PPV. He also announced Rhodes vs. Mark Henry and DiBiase vs. Randy Orton. Neither were happy about that news.

* Edge & Jericho b Colons in a non-title match. Not nearly as good as the match on TV tonight. Ref Marty Elias was distracted by Primo, and Jericho used the codebreaker on Carlito followed by a spear by Edge and Edge pinned Carlito. Carlito turned on Primo after the match, pounding on him and throwing him over the announcers’ table. Fans quickly realized Carlito was a heel.

* Gail Kim & Mickie James b Maryse & Alicia Fox when Kim pinned Maryse after a kick to the face. Some really funny crowd reactions all night. Most of the people in my section at ringside were asking when did Gail Kim come from TNA. It was clear all night that a very small percentage of the fans here watch Smackdown, ECW or Superstars

* Cody tried to pay off DiBiase to get him out of the match. That didn’t work. Somewhere in here Ted cut a promo about how he’s mad because Dusty Rhodes is in the Hall of Fame and he isn’t, and he was a hell of a lot better than Dusty. He also told Cody that he was going to put him in polka dota.

* Mark Henry b Cody Rhodes via count out. World’s strongest slam and Rhodes walked out. Henry got no reaction coming out even though he got a good reaction not that much earlier pinning Orton. People did cheer him after winning but not like a star.

* Randy Orton b Ted DiBiase with the RKO. Good match, clean pin in the middle.

* MVP VIP Lounge with Jack Swagger to start a new feud. Funny line as Swagger was bragging about going to the University of Oklahoma and MVP said, “That’s because you couldn’t get into a better school.” MVP was all over Swagger for walking out of his match against Orton and that’s not something an All-American would do. Swagger said * MVP attended Florida State, that is Florida state prison. He called him a phony and a fraud. MVP gave the speech about how he hung with the wrong crowd, made mistakes, paid his debt to society while Swagger acted all bored. MVP, who wasn’t over at all on the first show, took off his jewelry and the place got into him pretty big. He wanted a fight, but Swagger mentioned that he doesn’t fight criminals. Effective segment.

* Ted DiBiase and his dad argued backstage. I didn’t get the gist of it, but probably Ted said he was trying to teach his son a lesson. Ted Jr. thought his dad set him up to fail and slapped his dad hard. This was good as well.

* Evan Bourne b Kofi Kingston in a non-title match with the shooting star press. Post-match saw Big Show destroy both guys, spearing Bourne and putting the camel clutch on Kingston. Bourne-Kingston had some early athletic stuff but too fast.

* John Cena did a backstage promo and was booed heavy.

* HHH NC Cena to get the title shot. Cena in his promo said they would be doing a Wrestlemania match. They did a very good match, probably just under a PPV quality match. I’d say crowd was 75% pro-HHH, which was weird because in show one, HHH got a faded star reaction and Cena was the only guy in the first show who came off to the live crowd like they were a big star. Here the crowd was strong into the entire match and booed the hell out of Cena. As they were building the finish, Rhodes & DiBiase ran in to end it. Orton then said that since they both lost, he doesn’t have to defend against either. Ted Sr. then said he was wrong, as he saw it that neither lost and he was ordering a three-way at the Night of Champions.

* After the taping was over, Cena did a promo telling the fans that they had just seen a great show and had just seen a Wrestlemania main event. He said people could remember that they saw the best match they had ever seen in their lives. I was about to throw up when he delivered that line. People were with him. He said Rhodes & DiBiase ruined Wrestlemania and wanted all three to come down and apologize. After calling them cowards, they got in the ring. Orton was in HHH & Cena’s face when DiBiase & Rhodes bailed out without Orton knowing. Show ended with an Attitude Adjustment by Cena and pedigree by HHH on Orton, and then Ted Sr. came back out and slapped Ted Jr. in the face.

WWE is not yet done with Donald Trump. The writers are currently trying to come up with ideas to get Trump back onscreen as quickly as possible following the high ratings for last week’s Raw, which some, including Variety, are attributing to the Trump angle rather than the commercial-free nature of the show. Vince McMahon had pulled the plug on the angle because of a dip in WWE’s stock price after the storyline announcement that Trump had bought Raw, which some mainstream business publications bought into as a legitimate transaction last week. The general consensus on Wall Street is that if anybody other than Vince McMahon promotes a wrestling company then it is not worth investing in. By the time Trump was written out of the show, the stock price was returning to normal levels.

After Evan Bourne, Jack Swagger and Mark Henry appeared on Raw as part of the 15 man trade between all three brands brokered by Donald Trump before he sold Raw back to Vince McMahon, WWE.com went ahead and revealed the full details of the trade, and which wrestlers were headed to which brand.

Interesting to see ECW was almost entirely turned over, and Shelton Benjamin heading to ECW is notable as well.

Here is the list:
Moving to the Raw roster:
Gail Kim
Alicia Fox
Jack Swagger
Evan Bourne
Mark Henry

Moving to the SmackDown roster:
Matt Hardy
Finlay
The Hart Dynasty – David Hart Smith, Tyson Kidd & Natalya

Moving to the ECW roster:
Shelton Benjamin
Goldust
William Regal
Brie & Nikki Bella

The major WWE trade – orchestrated by Donald Trump when he owned Raw, seemingly with ECW interim GM Tiffany and currently on-probation Smackdown GM Teddy Long – saw a total of 15 wrestlers switching brands (5 to Raw, 5 to SD and 5 to ECW), and you can find details on every roster move of 2009 at Pulse Wrestling’s exclusive WWE Transaction History page.
