My Thoughts On WWE Raw 3.24.14 (Triple H, The Undertaker, Brock Lesnar, The Shield) Tue, 25 Mar 2014 22:00:13 +0000 WWE Raw 11-13 Header

1. I absolutely LOVE the fact that four former World Heavyweight Champions are wrestling a fatal four-way match on Raw to be named the number one contender for the Intercontinental Championship! I’ve said ever since they unified the World & WWE Championships that either the IC championship or the United States Championship had to be built back up to a higher level. This is the perfect step in the right direction but out of the 4 potential matches that could have come out of that match, Christian versus Big E was the lowest on my list.

2. I will say this, the Scooby Doo movie is actually pretty damn good. Of course my 3-year-old son has watched the screener I received on repeat for a week straight but before I started tuning out the repetitiveness, the movie is written very well! There are inside jokes that relate both to the world of wrestling AND the Scooby Doo world. All of the wrestlers did their own voices (except for Sin Cara who only speaks “Lucha”) & they all put on a good performance. I actually hope they make a sequel to this direct-to-DVD movie.

3. I had horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE WCW Nitro flashbacks when John Cena saw the sheep’s mask in the mirror and then it wasn’t there. I’ll just leave you with this:

4. Triple H’s “sit-down” promo with Michael Cole was rather awkward the entire way though. First, I didn’t see a particular reason as to why Cole had to be in the ring for a Triple H promo. Sure, he set up some of the topics but does anyone really think Triple H needs to be walked through a promo at this point? Two things fell flat for me. One was that Daniel Bryan didn’t make an appearance at all. Even something where he was live “via satellite” would have worked better than a complete no-show. Last week’s Raw ended so hot I felt they needed to capitalize on that and two promos from Triple H, Randy Orton, Stephanie McMahon or Batista aren’t going to do the job. Secondly was Hunter’s forced attempt at trying to “name” this time in WWE history as the “Reality Era”. Aren’t times in history named AFTER they’ve taken place and not during? He said it so many damn times I wouldn’t be surprised if people come up with a different name for the time we are living in just to spite WWE TV.

5. My favorite part of Cody/Fandango was when Goldust danced over to Summer Rae who shouted “Are you mocking me?” To which Goldust simply yelled “Yes!” and they had an impromptu dance off. I don’t know what it is but Goldust looks like he’s having so much damn fun, I can’t help but laugh at things like this.

6. Before I get to John Cena versus Luke Harper, everyone needs to watch this tremendous piece of work again:

Cutting pieces like that is my actual job and unfortunately I’m not allowed as much creative liberty when working for a sports news network. But from one editor to another (whoever it was), getting the rights to that song, laying out the promos to match the lyrics and letting the video & music tell most of the story made it fantastic. Great work that deserves all the play I’m sure it will receive.

6b. Alright, back to the actual match. First off, I like how Luke Harper is getting little bits of promo time here and there. They didn’t throw him into a sink or swim scenario like so many others and this allows him to develop at his own pace. The match itself I believe exceeded a lot of people’s expectations. I’ve been saying that if they want Harper to eventually be a top heel, they need to get him going and having him work with a main-eventer is definitely the way to go. A non-finish was logical given that we are less than two weeks away from WrestleMania and the visual of Cena wearing the sheep’s mask is one that’s going to leave an impression on a ton of Cena’s fans. It was just creepy and weird enough that it probably freaked out the kids while the adults couldn’t help but be intrigued by a John Cena storyline.

7. Well if you thought the battle royal at WrestleMania XXX was going to be a clusterfuck, the Divas just stole that mantle. What are the rules? How many women are involved? Can AJ lose the title without being pinned or is it elimination? Whatever the answers may be, it’s definitely not going to be pretty.

8. So wait, is Scott Hall going into the Hall of Fame or “Razor Ramon”? I would think they would have shown SOME of his NWO days if Hall was being inducted based on his career but it seems like he’s being inducted based on the character he played. I’d pop if Rick Bognar came out to accept the award.

9. The Shield are OVER as babyfaces. This match was good but nowhere the quality of tag matches we’ve seen them put on and yet the crowd was into it for every offensive spot by them (or by Cesaro). I know they’re not ready to turn Cesaro yet, especially when the priority seems to be on when Roman Reigns will turn, but they must be chomping at the bit to have Cesaro turn full babyface. Hell, he’s already there in the fans eyes!

10. I’m confused as to why ANYONE gets freaked out when the druids roll a casket to the ring. You know The Undertaker is either in there or will be after he climbs into it from under the ring (nice directing going to the one camera that shows someone going under the ring, by the way). I’m sorry but Undertaker/Lesnar is purely senseless to me & not the huge money draw the WWE expect it to be. Now if they could only show footage of when Brock Lesnar confronted The Undertaker after Lesnar’s UFC fight…×120-2013.jpg×250-raw-2013.jpg

My Thoughts: WWE Raw 3.17.14 (Daniel Bryan vs Randy Orton – No DQ/Triple H & Daniel Bryan Face Off) Tue, 18 Mar 2014 20:46:13 +0000 WWE Raw 11-13 Header

1. The backlash about how “Triple H always finds a way into the main event” is bound to be ridiculous. Maybe, just maybe, Triple H is trying to garner as much as heat as possible for himself and by extension, a massive babyface reaction for Daniel Bryan? The crowd should already be solidly in Bryan’s corner but where’s the harm in ensuring that fact a little bit more?

2. Thank the wrestling gods that Batista is a heel again though. And not just any heel but his “better than thou, Hollywood-elite persona” which was just perfect before he left in 2010. The shoot comments from Orton about Batista’s return “flopping” could turn out to be false if his heel momentum picks up the way it was before he left.

3. When Hulk Hogan first announced the “Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal”, I assumed this was a way to get a bunch of talent a WrestleMania payday & the obvious winner would be The Big Show. This would not only give Show a nice WrestleMania moment but also pay homage to Andre’s legacy of being dominant in battle royals because of his size. Now it may be anyone’s ballgame & might give someone an instant push. They are really attempting to build this match into something special and prestigious so I can only imagine that the winner would be in a great position for a big push.

4. So The Real Americans are all fine and dandy now? We all thought that Cesaro was being polished for MUCH bigger things once he moved on from Zeb Colter & Jack Swagger but now it seems as if they’re the number one contenders for the tag team titles. More often than not I wish that NXT was Raw.

5. Being 2nd generation Irish & a wrestling fan, I always cringe whenever St. Patrick’s Day rolls around. Not because of all the sloppy drunks that want to “celebrate” but because I KNOW I’m going to be dealing with some horrible skits on Raw, usually featuring Hornswoggle, Finlay or Sheamus. Well I got two out of three for my “enjoyment”. Titus O’Neill was definitely over the top but it could have been a helluva lot worse, I guess.

6. John Cena and Bray Wyatt is playing out exactly as expected. I’m glad they steered Cena away from joking around with the Wyatt character and instead react to Wyatt the way people used to react to the early days of The Undertaker. The difference here is that Wyatt’s promos are so damn good (and completely spot on) that incredible to think that he writes most of them himself. Their match at WrestleMania should be decent but the build is definitely fun. Hey now that they’re using an Eminem song for WrestleMania, maybe he’ll play Cena down to the ring just like Mark Crozer is planned to play Wyatt down.

7. I hate it when the “main event” takes place in the middle of the show but there’s no denying this was a damn fun fight. Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton, no matter how many times they wrestle, just have the right chemistry to make for an interesting match. Also, it’s always fun to hear Randy Orton go off on a fan on live TV.

8. The Shield pulled off one of the most literal babyface turns I’ve ever seen. They were intimidating Jerry Lawler only to slowly turn to face and subsequently attack Kane. Obviously they’ve taken a giant step back from splitting The Shield to have a match at WrestleMania only to have ALL of them turn babyface & become the newest addition to the anti-authority movement. I know I didn’t see it coming (at least not with Dean Ambrose involved) but I’m looking forward to what they have planned for them. I just hope they’re not lumped into the battle royal as they deserve so much better in April.

9. Well Dolph Ziggler has completely given up. I noticed in a WWE App interview that he was letting the dye job grow out and randomly had braids in his hair all the while rambling on about being in the WrestleMania battle royal. There’s been talk and talk and talk about teaming mid-level guys who used to be main eventers into a stable. Guys like The Miz, Ziggler and Zack Ryder have all been mentioned but is that really the way to go? To emphasize how badly these men have been booked lately (or not booked at all)? I don’t know what they have planned but as of right now, Dolph Ziggler is looking more and more like CJ Parker than the former World Heavyweight Champion that had one of the most popular Money In The Bank cash-ins in recent history.

10. Damn that last segment was fantastic & garnered nuclear heat on Triple H. HHH played his part perfectly here – from the beaten down husband who has been pushed to the edge & has learned to respect Daniel Bryan to the corrupt, dangerous boss – who gets as violently as WWE PG allows him to get. In only 3 weeks or so, Daniel Bryan went from being a part of the Wyatt Family to he and Triple H becoming the main event program for WrestleMania XXX. One might even think that CM Punk bowed out of the picture so this may all play out…×120-2013.jpg×250-Raw-2013.jpg

My Thoughts on Raw 3.3.14 (Daniel Bryan, Batista, Triple H, Paul Heyman, The Shield) Tue, 04 Mar 2014 04:25:00 +0000 WWE Raw 11-13 Header

1. I love the way they kicked off Raw. The WWE knew CM Punk was going to be an issue. That’s been obvious for a week (or even more) now. By having such an influential “CM Punk” guy in Paul Heyman to address the situation and just not ignore it but choose the best of two evils, they avoided looking ignorant & instead worked it into the already established Brock Lesnar/Undertaker storyline.

2. Awesome moment seeing the Usos win the WWE Tag Team Championships. It’s been a long time coming and it just seemed like all the stars aligned tonight. Great moment for the second generation brothers who’ve really worked their asses off the last couple of years.

3. From Seth Rollins aerial demonstration to Dean Ambrose’s chaotic streak and Roman Reigns sudden domination, each member of The Shield were able to showcase just a little bit of what they’re capable of as singles’ stars. A split is imminent so throwing spots like these into their matches are a nice taste of what’s to come.

4. If there was ever going to be a match where Chicago was going to start chanting for CM Punk again, it’s Sheamus vs Christian.

5. I thought of an interesting theory the other day. So Hulk Hogan is “hosting” WrestleMania 30. When The Rock “hosted” WrestleMania, he was able to restart the WWE Championship match between John Cena and The Miz when it ended on a count-out. So hear me out: Triple H versus Daniel Bryan takes place and Bryan pins Triple H clean. Undertaker & Brock Lesnar takes place and then Randy Orton & Batista make their entrances. Cue “Real American” where Hogan comes out onto the stage and says that the ring looks a little empty. Daniel Bryan’s music hits and Hogan puts him into the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match. Bryan wins cleanly and walks out of WrestleMania XXX with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

6. No John, stop trying to be cute with this crowd. You’re just making it worse.

7. The segment between Randy Orton and Batista, as well as how the main event played out makes my prediction for WrestleMania XXX so much more logical. Going out on a full limb – Daniel Bryan beats Triple H and then gets inserted into the main event, walking out with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.×120-2013.jpg×250-Raw-2013.jpg

My Thoughts: WWE Raw 2.24.14 (Hulk Hogan, The Undertaker, Brock Lesnar,Bray Wyatt, Roman Reigns) Wed, 26 Feb 2014 04:18:24 +0000 WWE Raw 11-13 Header

1. I guess it’s fitting that the “new era” of the WWE launches with 1980s “Real American”. You have to give it to Hulk Hogan though, the man definitely has timing.

2. Because Batista versus ADR was so good at Elimination Chamber that I just needed to see it again on Raw. It’s pretty funny how negatively the WWE fans have reacted to Batista’s return (I mean, “Boo-tista”? Seriously). He’s actually getting more boos than John Cena does nowadays. The difference is, Batista would LOVE to play a heel again whereas Cena will never be a bad guy.

3. Cesaro versus Big E just showed how good of a mid-card WWE has right now. They put on a great two segment length match that displayed the upsides of both guys and had the crowd into it all the way through. I had hoped they would showcase the IC and US titles more now that there’s only one World Champion and so far so good in my opinion.

4. A good opening segment to set up the Bray Wyatt/John Cena feud. Obviously Cena was going to insist on taking on all three guys on his own so the injury was a nice touch. It gives Cena something ELSE to overcome (as if three guys wasn’t enough) but I did like how Cena put over the Wyatt Family before they were introduced, acknowledging them as a threat. It might not seem like much for the “internet fans” but John Cena fans will absolutely take that to heart.

5. And Sheamus versus Christian was the perfect example of what happens to those guys stuck between the main event and mid-card. It’s going to be a tough job to juggle.

6. I saw this on Instagram and just had to post this before the Daniel Bryan/Kane match:

Outfit Change

7. OK match between Kane and Bryan but a more interesting promo from Daniel Bryan after the match. Two years ago, I sat in the arena during the CM Punk/AJ Lee/Daniel Bryan love triangle and Bryan was clearly the weakest talker out of the three. Now I’d put him up against anyone in the business and not only would he be able to hold his own, he’d more often than not come out on top.

8. Bray Wyatt versus Roman Reigns is truly surreal to see right now, especially without their respect groups with them. They put them near the top of the hour and are letting these two relative newbies (but VERY over) attract viewers who may be flipping channels based on their look, appeal, character and what they are able to do inside a wrestling ring.

9. Did I forget to mention that Roman Reigns is the subject of this week’s Wallpaper of the Week? Just click here: Roman Reigns – The Reign Will Soon Begin Wallpaper

10. I half wished that The Undertaker didn’t dye his beard for his return. I know he’s supposed to be “ageless” but The Undertaker has prided himself as a guy/character who can reinvent himself with the times. Why not let the fans in a little bit on how much older he’s getting? It’ll make his wins at WrestleMania that much more impressive. I’m not too thrilled with Brock/Taker at WrestleMania either but I can’t really complain about a match that’s been pretty much etched in stone since last year’s Mania.×120-2013.jpg×250-Raw-2013.jpg

Another 11 Thoughts: WWE Raw 2.10.14 (The Shield, The Wyatt Family, Daniel Bryan, Randy Orton, John Cena) Tue, 11 Feb 2014 03:56:35 +0000 WWE Raw 11-13 Header

1. Full disclosure – My weekend (Sunday/Monday) has been rough and now I get to look forward to a whole new week of work. I refuse to accept this and therefore & am having a small “party” here watching Raw.

2. Sooooo Randy Orton WANTS to do the media rounds and be on shows like Kelly & Michael? I think Randy needs to watch his own DVD where he said doing PR was the worst part of the job.

3. Wow the Staples Center truly did explode for Daniel Bryan. It looks like WWE’s plan of diverting the audience’s attention from CM Punk to the guy who’s actually THERE (Daniel Bryan) might actually working. The next step is to insert him into a triple threat championship match at WrestleMania.

4. Another strong six-man tag team match between The Wyatts and The Brotherhood & Rey Mysterio. Who would have thought that Goldust would be the least injury prone guy on his team?! Anyway, it was still Rey Mysterio to take one of the sickest moves I’ve seen in a while in the running Sister Abigail. God, it’s amazing how fast Bray Wyatt is.

5. As much as I love the New Age Outlaws, it probably was a good idea for Billy Gunn to adopt a headband to protect his receding hairline.

6. Hehehehe

7. I’m guessing it’s a pretty safe bet that Antonio Cesaro steals the show at Elimination Chamber. Considering his unorthodox offense, the fact that he’s never been in the Chamber and the reactions he’s been receiving from the live audiences lately, everything looks to be in place for Cesaro to become a household name on the 23rd.

8. Crowd POPS for Batista’s music! Crowd starts to boo when they remember he won the Royal Rumble. Crowd pops for the table spot! Ahh, LA.

9. Awesome choice putting Lita in the Hall Of Fame. Trish Stratus may have been the first of her kind to become credible in the ring, Lita broke the mold when it came to women’s wrestling in the WWE and being a “Diva”. So far a pretty good class for the 2014 Hall Of Fame.

10. That stand-off between the Wyatt Family was just another nudge toward Roman Reigns babyface turn. He was ready to give the crowd what they wanted whereas the other 5 men remained on the apron. I truly hope they don’t screw up Reigns’ turn.

11. I wonder how many people have already left to get ahead of LA traffic when they saw what the main event was. They keep saying that Randy Orton & John Cena debuted 10 years ago. Why the hell would you want to tell your audience how stale your top stars are? Ugh, I’m out.×120-2013.jpg×250-Raw-2013.jpg

WWE Monday Night Raw Preview for Monday 01.27.2014 – Fallout from 2014 Royal Rumble Results Takes Center Stage on Raw Sun, 26 Jan 2014 19:00:44 +0000 WWE Monday Night Raw preview for Monday 1/27/14:

–The results of the 2014 Royal Rumble PPV will be the first true indicator as to where WWE is headed on the Road to WrestleMania XXX. Monday Night Raw will feature all of the fallout from Sunday’s show including the first showdown between the Royal Rumble match winner and the WWE World Heavyweight Champion (either John Cena or Randy Orton)

–Also, as a result of Sunday’s Royal Rumble PPV, we will also get a clearer picture for the Road to WrestleMania XXX when it comes to The Authority’s agenda for the next few months. Will Triple H and Stephanie McMahon look at the 2014 Royal Rumble match winner and the WWE World Heavyweight Champion as what’s “best for business” … or will they have other plans they’d like to set in motion?

–Meanwhile, Brock Lesnar said he would be the next challenger to the WWE World Heavyweight Champion following the 2014 Royal Rumble. What will the Royal Rumble match winner have to say about Lesnar’s proclamation?

All this and more on Raw … Monday night!×250.jpg×120.jpg

Breaking: Daniel Bryan Suffers Concussion On Raw Wed, 15 Jan 2014 00:11:46 +0000 Despite one of the most electric endings of Raw in a long time, Daniel Bryan reportedly doesn’t remember it.

A report released today says that Bryan suffered a concussion early into the steel cage match which pitted Bryan and Bray Wyatt against The Usos but doesn’t remember much about the match or rest of the night.

No one from WWE has commented on the potential injury but he is not expected at tonight’s WWE Live event in Worcester, Mass. Bryan did send out this tweet Tuesday afternoon:

Another 6 Thoughts: WWE Raw 1.13.14 (Daniel Bryan, Bray Wyatt, CM Punk, Ultimate Warrior) Tue, 14 Jan 2014 14:35:29 +0000 WWE Raw 11-13 Header

1. It truly is amazing how over Daniel Bryan is as a babyface while in this storyline. I think everyone is pretty much expecting this to play out as Bryan snapping on the Wyatts and the feud from that point on. I love how they are playing this turn straight up though. He’s not conflicted, he’s not teasing that he’s going to turn on them and he’s embraced everything about the Family. It really is the surest way to get a story over. Although now it looks like that maybe a losing streak may play into Bryan turning on Wyatt.

2. I have no idea how big of a fan CM Punk was of the New Age Outlaws growing up but the recent pairing has been damn fun to watch. They genuinely look like they’re having fun together and it’s always awesome when a nostalgia act returns & can still go.

3. Right as I was typing that maybe this renewed push of the New Age Outlaws would result in a Hall of Fame induction, they pull the classic tag team heel turn to remind everyone they’re buddies with Triple H. I loved seeing Road Dogg and Billy Gunn but this storyline change makes perfect sense and also pushes CM Punk back in the main event storyline with The Authority.

4. I never thought I’d live to see the day when the Ultimate Warrior would be inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame. Now he’s going into the HoF BEFORE the “Macho Man” Randy Savage. I remember an interview Ted DiBiase did not too long ago when he said that if Warrior is inducted into the HoF, it diminishes everyone else who is already in it. I know he can’t be the only person who shares that feeling…

5. Show your… non-support for the Hall Of Fame announcement with our new t-shirt:

Ultimate Warrior - Vote NO For The HoF T-Shirt

6. Good match to round out a weird night of Raw. I did like that way the Bryan turn played out even though I’m sure there will be a lot of people complaining that the storyline should have gone on longer. The fact is, Bryan and creative got what they needed out of the time between TLC and the Rumble and now Bryan can talk about how he’s going to win & main event WrestleMania. Plus, during the Wyatts’ earlier promo, Bryan said that inside the cage we’d see “a monster”. When he joined Bray Wyatt, he said he just wanted to be made into a monster so he could win the WWE World Title. The storyline did come full circle. It was just a little quicker than I think some people thought it would go.×120-2013.jpg×250-Raw-2013.jpg

Another 8 Thoughts: WWE Raw 1.6.14 (Old School Raw, Daniel Bryan, CM Punk, Roman Reigns) Tue, 07 Jan 2014 07:54:44 +0000 Manhattan Center Raw

1. I liked how Daniel Bryan’s debut with the Wyatt Family turned out. First of all, they didn’t have him come out in a goat mask! I was deathly afraid that may happen since it was so easy to do to mirror the sheep mask. Secondly, they put Bryan on the opposite side of the ring as Rey Mysterio. Hell, Mysterio has been getting newly turned heels over since 1997 (Not to mention he may be the only person on the roster shorter than Bryan besides Hornswoggle)! And then THEY LOST! You don’t need to win to get progress a story, especially one that seems to be a main focus of the show. I also love the tease of Bryan and Bray Wyatt teaming next week on Raw. That’s what people really want to see so why not give them a taste?

2. I had some things going on during the Piper’s Pit segment which is a shame since I had looked forward to it. I did catch most of it and Piper was absolutely on his game tonight. His back and forth with Dean Ambrose was somewhat predictable but that didn’t make it bad. Ambrose’s promo style has been compared to Piper’s for years now so seeing them in the ring together was a little surreal. Seth Rollins didn’t embarrass himself at all but was clearly outclassed by Piper. And how about the “rub” Rowdy Roddy Piper gave CM Punk? One of the best (if not THE best) promo men in the business, Rowdy Piper, said that the only person that can hold a mic against him is CM Punk. There’s not much higher praise than that.

3. So they’ve finally have a date set to announce what they plan on doing with the WWE Network. This Wednesday, January 8th at 9:30 PM Eastern, a lot of WWE executives & top stars will announce the plan for the long labored WWE Network. Did they get a cable provider to back them? Will they only be an internet streaming service? Or will they become a streaming subscription service similar to the Netflix model (best idea, in my opinion)? One way or another, the mystical WWE Network seemingly is about to see the light of day and I know I’m not the only one curious to find out what happens next.

4. You know what one of the great things about not having to specifically write “10 Thoughts”? I don’t have to complete an article with by filling it with my thoughts on “Sin Hunico”, Sgt. Slaughter dancing or Bad News Barrett.

5. It amazes me that week after week, Cody Rhodes and Goldust are booked across the ring from one of WWE’s 10 or so tag teams and they can put together an exciting, logical and engaging tag team match that always adds something to the show. Cody Rhodes & Goldust are consistently adding to the quality of Raw (although, I’m begging Justin Roberts to begin announcing them as “The Brotherhood”). Read that sentence again. It just amazes me that this half-brother duo is helping to revitalize the WWE tag team division.

6. Brock Lesnar may have been built for MMA but his presence and facial expressions were made for pro-wrestling. But why do we need to see Brock face off with The Big Show? Lesnar and Mark Henry was bad enough but anyone who has been a WWE fan for more than 4 years has seen Brock Lesnar and Big Show feud over and over again. The only difference now: they’re both older and slower.

7. That introduction by the Road Dogg for CM Punk might have been the best of Punk’s career. And the Ribera’s jacket is just perfect. I will say though that the right man won the main event tonight. Roman Reigns not only has that “it factor” but he’s also extremely athletic and talented. The fans WANT to cheer for Reigns, that part is obvious. I’m interested to see what they do with him in the Royal Rumble now that Batista is an entrant. It’s going to be interesting to say the least.

8. Seeing Jake “The Snake” Roberts just felt great. He looked great, he obviously still can captivate the audience and did anyone else catch the grin on Dean Ambrose’s fan as the snake Damien slithered over him. If Jake can make a Rumble appearance or maybe a Hall Of Fame induction, his hard work and determination will have paid off ten-fold. Just a few years ago, everyone was comparing Jake Roberts’ story to that of Randy The Ram’s in “The Wrestler” movie. Now look at “The Snake”. I don’t know if there could ever be a bigger turnaround in wrestling history.×120-2013.jpg×250-Raw-2013.jpg

Breaking News: WWE’s Jerry “The King” Lawler Hospitalized Mon, 06 Jan 2014 23:57:54 +0000 Michael Bluth of reported earlier that WWE Hall of Famer, Jerry “The King” Lawler was hospitalized after needing medical attention when he began having chest pains and vomiting earlier today in Baltimore, the site of Raw. has posted an update on Lawler’s condition and has said that he had blood work done at the hospital and is now “doing fine.” There’s been no confirmation yet if The King is still in the hospital or will still appear on “Old School Raw” tonight.

Lawler suffered a heart attack on September 10th of 2012 during a live Raw broadcast and underwent angioplasty the following day.×120.jpg×250.jpg

Another 9 Thoughts: WWE Raw 12.30.13 (CM Punk, Brock Lesnar, The Shield, Daniel Bryan, The Wyatt Family) Tue, 31 Dec 2013 04:32:09 +0000 WWE Raw 11-13 Header

1. So apparently my recent “Random Thoughts” columns haven’t gone over so well with some readers. Mostly I think people didn’t realize that those columns were basically quick, “Twitter-esque” comments compiled together into one article. Either way I decided to keep those same Twitter comments on my Twitter account @MattHarrak during Raw & PPVs while also trying to give the readers another type of “Thoughts” column.

2. I love how Raw is starting out. From featuring each member of The Shield to Ziggler versus Axel and Fandango challenging Big E Langston for the Intercontinental Championship. Despite the announcement of another John Cena/Randy Orton match at the Royal Rumble, tonight seems like a perfect opportunity for the younger guys on the roster to shine during the last Raw of 2013. Even more established stars like CM Punk & Daniel Bryan are in segments featuring the future of the WWE; The Shield & The Wyatt Family.

3. Of course I say all of this and then the main event for the (arguably) second biggest PPV of the year, the Royal Rumble, is John Cena versus Randy Orton for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. But hey, it’s a new year (soon) and I’m choosing to look at the silver lining here – John Cena and Randy Orton will probably not be in the Rumble match itself.

4. It may not be Xavier Woods in the match but I think that this week’s Wallpaper of the Week fits:

Xavier Woods Debut Wallpaper

5. Brock Lesnar and Batista both possibly entering the Royal Rumble? It seems like a long shot now that Lesnar will be in the Rumble match after that segment but it would be nice to see the day when the WWE didn’t have to call in “special attractions” like Brock Lesnar and Batista to make WrestleMania season feel special. After that segment, I wouldn’t be surprised to see “The Animal” Batista vs “The Beast” Brock Lesnar at the Rumble.

6. Aksana pinned Nikki Bella? More interestingly, Nikki Bella jobbed to Aksana. Probably most importantly, Aksana still exists? I mean, she debuted during Goldust’s last run with the WWE!

7. announced CM Punk vs Roman Reigns for next week’s Old School Raw. The Shield’s slow burn and CM Punk as the catalyst appears to be working perfectly. Why do I think Reigns will be the only member of The Shield to pin Punk…

8. WWE loves putting Daniel Bryan in these gauntlet matches. Remember The Real Americans & Ryback that gave us the fantastic match of Antonio Cesaro versus Bryan? Somehow I don’t think we’ll get the quality that Cesaro/Bryan provided but Luke Harper and Bryan should have good chemistry and hopefully we get a taste of Wyatt & Bryan’s chemistry.

9. Soooooo that’s how we end the last Raw of 2013? Where was Brie Bella to protest any of this? Isn’t it going to put a strain on their engagement when he asks her to move in with him & The Family at the local derelict building? Maybe this is a long round about way to get Bryan to turn on The Family and be able shave his beard/cut his hair before their wedding. Whatever the reasoning may be, it didn’t really translate to WWE TV which is too bad since the show was pretty good with minimal lows.×120-2013.jpg×250-Raw-2013.jpg

**Spoiler Former WWE Champion To Return To Raw Tonight** Mon, 30 Dec 2013 22:12:17 +0000 Many sites are reporting that former WWE Champion Brock Lesnar will return to WWE TV on Monday Night Raw. He is expected to either lay the groundwork for a feud leading into the 2014 Royal Rumble or make an announcement that he will be an actual entrant of the Royal Rumble match himself.

Harrak’s Hit: With Batista returning, Shawn Michaels’ regular role on TV and Brock Lesnar coming back to TV before 2014, I think we can rule out The Rock for WrestleMania 30. It will be nice when the WWE doesn’t rely on past stars to help boost their WrestleMania hype.×120.jpg×250.jpg

Random Thoughts: WWE Raw 12.23.13 (Is It Time For The Rumble Yet?) Tue, 24 Dec 2013 04:38:33 +0000 Good Santa vs Bad Santa 2013

{Ed. Note: Happy Holidays to those readers who celebrate. In an effort of full disclosure, I completely underestimated the excitement & joy a three-year old feels around this time and the word “exhausted” can’t even begin to describe the shape I’m in. I apologize if my Thoughts are briefer than normal but right now my main struggle is keeping my eyes open.}

<- “Good Santa” vs “Bad Santa” might actually put me down for a KO.

<- What a bitch it must be getting through security with those two titles. Randy Orton’s bus has paid for itself by now.

Completely Random Divas Match Where They’re Dressed Like Slutty Elves

<- They needed 12 women for this Divas match and they needed to Vickie Guerrero to participate. Now that the tag team division is soaring, maybe it’s time for the executives to turn their attention to the Divas division

<- Holy crap, that match was worse than usual. Eyes. Are. Trying. To. Close.

Sin (Hunico) Cara vs Curtis (Michael McGillicutty) Axel

<- Trying to keep my mind sharp (and awake) by adding those original names.

<- The new Sin Cara even  gets promo time?! I’d LOVE to know how Triple H is spinning this.

<- I’d prefer to see Sami Zayn debut on the main roster in a tag team with someone like Tyson Kidd but the “new” Sin Cara has definitely been on a roll. Let Sami do the talking and you might get a pretty decent set of “high-flyers” with a Zayn/Cara team.

Batista Promo

<- Welp, that was definitely better than trying to ignore the rumors floating around. I’m a little upset that he isn’t a surprise entrant in the Royal Rumble. Debuting a week before helps to set up any sort of story though.

The Brotherhood & Daniel Bryan vs The Wyatt Family

<- The WWE isn’t the “Land of 1,000 Dances” anymore but the “Land of the Six-Man Tag Match”.

<- A few years ago I could absolutely see the WWE booking Daniel Bryan as a part of the Wyatt Family and it failing miserably.

<- They’re doing a great job at keeping The Brotherhood strong but still putting over the Wyatt Family as a legitimate threat.

 Dolph Ziggler vs Fandango

<- 2 very good talents but 3 weeks in a row they’re booked against one another. Variety is the spice of life, WWE.

<- Solid mid-card match where, once again, two mid-card stars busted their butts for a #1 contendership at the Intercontinental Championship.

The Usos vs The PrimeTime Players

<- The Usos’ war dance is a bit less impressive when there’s fake snow, presents and Christmas trees behind them.

<- Holiday antics with the Rudolph nose and now we’re moving onto “Santa” vs “Santa”. I am legitimately slapping myself to stay away right now.

“Bad Santa” Damien Sandow vs “Good Santa” Mark Henry

<- While I am watching Damien Sandow hit Mark Henry with a fake candy cane, my wife and I are also watching American Horror Story: Asylum. Talk about one extreme to another.

The Real Americans vs Los Matadores

<- All I want for Christmas is for Cesaro to “Cesaro Swing” little El Torito.

<- I remember nothing from this match.

Kofi Kingston vs Ryback

<- Awww hell! I can’t stay awake and now I have to sit through Kofi & Ryback? Willpower. Willpower. Willpower!

<- Absolutely legit, my wife just woke me up. I was in the middle of having Raw playing through my headphones on my computer in my ear, typing an email to Widro on my phone & watching American Horror Story AND I STILL couldn’t stay awake! Wow…

CM Punk, John Cena & Big E Langston vs The Shield

<- When was the last time a member of The Shield wrestled a single’s match? Ambrose four months ago? Time to do a little more work separately, I believe.

<- Nice to see Big E Langston get the hot tag instead of the typical Punk offense.

<- Another typical 6-man tag team match. The novelty of it has lost its luster and it’s time to see what The Shield members can TRULY do on their own. Either way, the 3 on 3 format has definitely run its course and while its nice to see a lot of talent featured throughout the show, people need to make the sacrifice for a better product.×120-2013.jpg×250-Raw-2013.jpg

Random Thoughts: WWE Raw 12.16.13 (Orton Is Crowned & Faces Daniel Bryan) Tue, 17 Dec 2013 04:09:12 +0000 Raw in Hartford 2013 (9)

A “Champion’s Coronation”

<- I wonder what they’re going to do the next time an episode of Raw ISN’T historic…

<- When was the last time one babyface (John Cena) pushed so hard to get another babyface (Daniel Bryan) over? Last week it appeared like pandering to Bryan’s hometown crowd to get a cheap pop but between SummerSlam and these recent promos, Cena truly appears to want to give Bryan a “rub”.

The Rhodes Brothers vs The Big Show & Rey Mysterio

<- Nice rematch between two teams that stole part of last night’s show. Goldust’s performance in particular was amazing at TLC.

<- 2 former World Champions & the Tag Champs in the ring and the announcers are taking “selfies”…? Who the hell made that call?!

<- Has the Big Show EVER been successful jumping off the ropes?

<- Another damn good match between two good teams. I’m looking forward to their matches in the future.

Bad News Barrett/The Authority-Randy Orton Segment

<- Bad News Barrett gives me a bad feeling in my gut. And that’s usually before he talks.

<- So I guess their going with the name “WWE World Heavyweight Championship”. Clean, no “undisputed” or “unified” crap. I just hope they move to one belt soon.

Fandango vs Dolph Ziggler

<- Quick TV match but I like the story they’re telling between these two. I could be a pretty good mid-card feud.

Big E Langston & Mark Henry vs The Real Americans

<- So what’s the over/under on when Henry turns on Big E for the IC title?

<- Cesaro Swing on Mark Henry? Now THAT would be impressive!

<- Dammit! We ALMOST got the Swing!

<- Another strong tag team match on Raw and for once the announcers are right, the tag team division is looking fantastic.

Tons of Funk vs Rybaxel

<- This is the third tag team match tonight and we still have the six man tag match left at least.

<- This one further a budding storyline though and FINALLY we are going to see the monster Brodus Clay we all expected when he debuted.

CM Punk & The Usos vs The Shield

<- Oooooooh shit! Is my DX vs Punk/Bryan match at WrestleMania really going to happen?!

<- The one, simple segment was a highlight of 2013 for me. I’m dying for the tag match but Punk vs HBK would be incredible as well.

<- I accidentally voted for Los Matadores to be CM Punk’s partners. Now I think it would be awesome.

<- The Usos have been OVER for a while, especially with the live crowds. Shocks me they haven’t had a title run yet and now the competition is immensely more intense.

<- The Uso offense is just plain exciting. It’s gotta be in the genes.

<- It doesn’t get much better than that. Great episode of Raw thus far.

The Bella Twins & Natalya vs AJ Lee, Tamina Snuka & Alicia Fox

<- There’s been ONE single’s match this entire show.

<- I’m sorry. I’m not even watching this match and the commentary definitely isn’t helping.

<- Hey, AJ won. Yay.

Randy Orton vs Daniel Bryan

<- Anyone else think this was going to be a Championship match?

<- I feel like this match should feel much more special than it does. More segments hyping the match throughout Raw probably would have helped.

<- There’s no doubt that Bryan & Orton have great chemistry in the ring.

<- Randy Orton grabbing the bottle of water & bringing it into the ring brought back fond memories of the early heel Rock.

<- This has been a great main event to cap off a great Raw.

<- Fantastic main event that followed a very good PPV last night. The Cena run-in sets up a nice triple threat match at Royal Rumble and if Raw stays this good, it should be a fun build to watch.×120-2013.jpg×250-Raw-2013.jpg

10 Thoughts: WWE TLC 2013 (John Cena, Randy Orton, CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Triple H) Mon, 16 Dec 2013 04:05:09 +0000 WWE Unification Match 2013 Wallpaper

1. I know you’ve missed my 10 Thoughts but here I am! CW will still be covering Raw but I’m hanging onto the PPV “10 Thoughts” since I’m already covering the show on Twitter (@pulsewrestling). I’ll start off quickly with my predictions for tonight in case you missed the latest HTC Wrestling Pulsecast.

- Fandango vs Dolph Ziggler

WWE Tag Team Champions Goldust & Cody Rhodes vs. Rey Mysterio & Big Show vs. Ryback & Curtis Axel vs. The Real Americans (Elimination Fatal 4-Way Match)

Intercontinental Champion Big E Langston vs. Damien Sandow

- Divas Champion AJ Lee vs. Natalya

CM Punk vs. The Shield (3-on-1 Handicap Match)

- Daniel Bryan vs. The Wyatt Family (3-on-1 Handicap Match)

- World Heavyweight Champion John Cena vs. WWE Champion Randy Orton (Tables, Ladders & Chairs Match)

2. I said it on our preview Pulsecast that I thought if anyone could make a handicap match entertaining, it would be CM Punk and The Shield. They did just that and more so. I REALLY liked the dynamic of the match and the different approach they were able to direct it. It’s funny, I predicted that CM Punk would win and Justin predicted The Shield would win but Roman Reigns would spear Dean Ambrose. Therefore I’m just going to claim the win since my guy had his hand raised.

3. I’m still confused on how Natalya lost another Divas championship match. I KNOW AJ Lee is the best woman they have on the roster. But she is also at her best when she can let all of the crazy out (on TV, at least). What reason does she really have to be crazy if she is already at the top of her profession. Give her someone to chase, someone to obsess over, ANYTHING to give her a strong storyline. Keeping the title on her doesn’t give her any motivation to really compete.

4. Big E Langston is going to be HUGE for the WWE in the near future. I checked out his age to see how long he may have in the ring – the beast is 27 years old. That’s DAMN young for a professional wrestler and the tools he has at his disposal should only get better as he works with more seasoned wrestlers.

5. The elimination stipulation added to the Tag Team Championship Fatal Four match was a great addition. Not only was it able to feature all four teams more prominently but we also got a damn good match out of it! The tag team division in the WWE is the best it’s been since the glory days of early SmackDown and this match was just a taste. Don’t forget that The Shield & the Wyatt Family wasn’t involved at all (along with others). I’m REALLY looking forward to 2014 if this trend continues.

6. Finally we get the Brodus Clay we all expected when he showed up as the “Funkasaurus” and he loses cleanly to R-Truth? I’m looking forward to the new “monster” Clay but I did hope for a stronger start.

7. A high intensity, quickly thrown together match that filled a solid spot on this card. I really don’t understand why we needed another Kofi Kingston/Miz feud, especially when it’s rather obvious that The Miz is now a heel. But the No DQ stipulation caught my attention and they held my attention for the duration.

8. A much more storyline driven match compared to the Shield/Punk match but still damn good. Bray Wyatt always impresses me when he steps into the ring. His speed, persona… just his “IT” factor is off the charts and tonight was no different. I love the fact that he lost the extra weight which just added to his unbelievable speed & the fact that he pulled off the spider walk was just impressive. The “That was creepy!” chant from the live crowd was perfect!

9. I don’t know what is but I love it when they actually raise the championship belt above the ring right before the match starts. I love the visual it creates.

10. Once I saw the handcuffs come out, I immediately flashbacked to the TLC match featuring CM Punk, The Miz and Alberto Del Rio where Miz handcuffed Punk to the turnbuckle. Punk used the same escape route to fend off Miz and Del Rio & it was a great visual. I was happy this played out much differently. The “tug of war” and the way Cena’s head bounced off of the table instead of completely going through it all added to the drama of the finish. I’m sure there will be ton of critics of this match but I truly think these two men laid out everything they had and put on a helluva a performance. Plus, A CLEAN FINISH! ON PPV! It’s about damn time and it was the right time for one.×120-2013.jpg×250-2013-WWE-TLC.jpg
